My first thread has a slightly misleading title; this title is clearer.

I'm mostly interested in the original FD lens.

Optex did a PL (sometimes B4) mount conversion. I'd consider one of those too.

I need this ASAP.

Bump.

Still in need! Please think of anyone you might know who once had one...

Thanks

Mike

Mike, I've never come across a FD mount version. Would a EF version work for you? I would never give up my EF 200/1.8 but I saw one advertised for sale on FredMiranda.com

Samir, it's not too hard to find the EF version. They're just very very expensive, and all my other long lenses are the classic FD mounts; I've standardized on that and have every long & fast FD ever made - except the 200/1.8…

If I can't get one I'll just rent a 150/1.3 Master Prime and live with the shorter lens for the job I have coming up (explosive volcanoes by night :) )

But I still want to own the 200/1.8 FD!!

Thanks

MIke

Like this.. :)
Yes they are awesome... I know exactly why you want one.
It took me 5 years to find one. ! and never letting it go.

Mark: Grrrrrrrrr!

Samir: Yes! I have some test footage I shot last month in Japan at night, but it looks like crap until I get a good pass through Neat…watch this space.

Oh, and bump :-)

OK Samir this is the kind of thing I'm working on… Nikon 70-200mm VR2 wide open at f/2.8, 360 shutter 1600 ISO and… noise floor! Pitch black, histogram hard to the left :-(

I need Dragon and/or the 200/1.8! :-)

I love the smell of lava in the evening… nothing like a bad-tempered volcano throwing rocks at you to end your day perfectly :-)

Mike there´s also the Nikkor 200 f2 AIS. All manual focus, super sharp, easy to mod for cinema. Only problem is it focuses wrong way.

Woah!

Nice work man… seems we were both after the same thing! That's the Showa crater… where were you shooting from? I was roadside next to the lahar channel.

I'm going back there soon shooting three cams simultaneously… long, wide, & high frame rate :-)

Mike

My stuff is for a long-term personal project - a feature documentary about Japan. If I knew you were coming here to shoot this, I would have help you organize it. Kagoshima is my wife's home town and I go fishing around Sakurajima every time we are down there. I know all the best spots to get variety of angles - some at safe distance, others need little less self-preservation genes (and a way to deal with the local authorities...). How long are you here for? Give me a call (number in PM)...

:sifone: Peter

EDIT: The HFR option might be a tough one to pull off, unless you are shooting daytime stuff as well - but then you won't see the red-hot lava rocks...

I have an earworm...

# Is this the way to Kagoshima?
# Every night I've been dreaming of lava...

(it goes on and gets worse!)

I was in Japan for two weeks family holiday in August; I took a couple of days off to play with Sakurajima and where to shoot from. I'll return later this year when timing works, just to shoot there for a few days.

I'm a geologist by training, and a fireman as well as a cinematographer… far from risk-averse :-)

If I'm going somewhere I can't drive to… just don't ask me to lug my gear up serious hills without a full crew to help with the lugging!

HFR? Maybe a little HFR, get close enough, moonlight, and use Something Exotic for glass… like a Noctilux… or dump the Epic; someone must make a camera with huge light-bucket photosites on the sensor, something you can really push, like 10,000 ISO push...
