  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon EOS mounts for Red Pro Primes

Angies clear, Cooke zooms clear, RPPs clear, albeit with my PL mount-shorter pilot. I'm offering RPP owners this option for A/B cam use- as promised:thumbsup: This is Red forum after all..

Fair enough, although I think you should point out that the Angenieux DP Rouge zooms (16-42 & 30-80) will not clear, nor will most primes. They simply extend too far behind the mount. Good that these other do though.

Full Disclosure: Abel sells the Hot Rod 7DPL as well as other items that could be seen as competition to Optitek's product here. I'm not trying to deride what Jacek has done -- I think it's great and fulfills a need. But like every option there are limitations and I was just trying to clarify what they might be. Genuine curiosity.

Not April fools joke

Not April fools joke

It really exists, honest,
On a serious note not all cine lenses work with it, but for RPP owners it's a pretty attractive proposition IMO. Compliment RPPs with Angenieux Optimos (or HRs) and you have a complete lens package for any size and budget production.

will check into it

will check into it

I'll come up with a complete list, checked RPPs and Optimos so far......

Does that mean that all the RPP's including the 18mm will fit on the 7D without hitting the mirror? Also, idea on price? I'm very interested

Hi Vlad,
Since you a local let's get in touch
805-499-9966
I'll go over the system with you..
Pretty simple, really....

Is this system going to be at NAB?? would love to see it

They may not work now but I'm pretty sure I can hack into the Angie optical design and make them clear. Another side benefit is that they will work on film cameras and you may be saving $20K+ on Optimo purchase...

That might just make you a rich man.

low prifile

low prifile

Can you make it 19mm rod compatible using the RED universal adapter or it's own 19mm support?

Thanks

Michael T.
I meant "LOW PROFILE" in the title
Mods, please(it's embarassing :blush2:)
The support is very low profile so it would easily fit on any base plate be it 15 or 19mm rods, ARRI or RED

Really cool, thanks.

How much?

When can I order one?

:)

Thanks Michael,
I'm not 100% sure about the price yet- I don't have all the quotes somewhere in the 1400-1600 neighborhood- could be less if I get many orders- will see at NAB

Contact me at jacek@optitek.org and I'll get your info for the place in line and give you more details(and pick your brain for feedback):001_cool:.

Jacek - did you check with the RPP 18mm yet? That lens goes further into the house than the other. If you can make it work with the 18mm then I'm pretty much in.

I'll check Vlad's 18mm very soon and report back here.
Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

I know that this mod removes the reflex mirror, but it accepts all 35MM PL mounted Film lenses (haven't tested an RPP 18mm yet - but happy to if someone wants to meet up and do a test!)
There are a lot of unresolved issues IMO
-Lost warranty
-lost (big chunk at the very least)original application(still photography) and, consequently a lot of resale value
-liability of manipulating the sophisticated mechanisms
-significant cost (aren't these about $5000)
-no possibility of upgrade to newer, better model camera as they are released
I try to stay away from modifying original equipment, at least the "non reversible" kind of modifications. Too much liability IMO....
don't forget- I've done this for almost 25 years now...:001_tt2:
Disclaimer:
Obviously I'm biased here(and I like Ilya from the Dalsa days). to each their own, I'm all about options-they are good to have...

I totally respect and am excited about what you are doing too Optitek, just wanted to point out the competition.

notes below:

There are a lot of unresolved issues IMO
-Lost warranty
[HRC is offering a 3 year extended warranty I believe]
-lost (big chunk at the very least)original application(still photography) and, consequently a lot of resale value
[Stills can still be taken, just not with the optical viewfinder or autofocus - I know this isn't ideal for many]
-liability of manipulating the sophisticated mechanisms
[Fair Enough]
-significant cost (aren't these about $5000)
[the basic cost is $3250+camera]
-no possibility of upgrade to newer, better model camera as they are released

Looks way cool Jacek,

I like it that you'll be able to sell / upgrade the host DSLR or potentially rent the unit and companion lenses to a canon owner when they want to play with PL lenses.

A few questions - want to check some of my existing oddball fleet of PL glass to see which would work on a 7d.

How short does the tail of the PL mount need to be to fit in your mount ? ( measured from back of PL flange )

How much mirror shutter clearance do you need ( measured from back of PL flange to rear element protector ) ?

Does the camera freak if you tape the mirror in the up position ?

Are the screw holes in the EOS mount symmetrical so I can invert one of a pair of cams for 3D purposes ?

How soon can I get one of these ?

Thanks Jaceck, I won't make it to NAB but will catch up with you after.
