  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon EOS mounts for Red Pro Primes

mount cost

mount cost

What is cost of just the mount?
The mount adapter will cost around $6-700- I had a lot of interest and we'll make lot more than anticipated. The RPPS will need modified PL mounts- I can do that with originals or supply mounts @$150-170/pc.
The mounts are identical FD to original (Red)PLs so no adjustment necessary.

Does anyone else think that modifying the back flange of the RPP's might affect the optical path some way? I mean - even minutely. There has to be a reason they designed them to be the length they are right? Or did they just throw excess metal on there willy-nilly?

I mean Dan, I love you man, but you should stick to making beautiful images...
You don't have a clear idea what I'm doing and make statement like this, so typical here...
FYI I DON'T alter back flange in any way.- that's the point here-otherwise it won't work:smash:
I have completed dozens of lens designs - most a lot more complicated than this- I assure you, you won't alter the PL location in any way- if you want I have ready Stainless PL mounts at very reasonable price to do a simple swap- that's all.And you only need to do it once-no need to swap back the lenses work well on both RED PL and my adapter. And film cameras. And all the other PL mounted Cine cameras(actually two at this time D21 and F35)
I already said that a few pages back. Something has to give- if you don't want to touch your lens I have a solution for that too- straight from the Optimator- the optics work real well- just cost more....

Well, that's cute.

You must not completely understand what I am asking or else you wouldn't be answering the question by talking about FLANGE DEPTH FROM THE SENSOR, which I know would not be affected by your modification or else it wouldn't work...

Perhaps I chose the wrong word exactly when saying flange - I guess you could call it the "rear shroud"

In this picture, I am talking about the rear part of the lens, all the way to the left. I know it's a Uniq Optics lens, and that is actually what got me thinking about optical path since it has a larger "rear shroud" than some other lenses I have seen.

I'm talking about the SHROUD that covers the rear elements that ARE being modified. And I asked it as an honest question - not an accusatory or inflammatory question.

I think your response speaks for itself. Your answer could simply be - "The shroud on the back of the lens makes little to no difference and will in no way affect the images that come from the lens."

That said, I think you are right, I will perhaps MMOB (mind my own business) and focus on making films look as good as possible instead of asking technical questions like the nerd I am.

All good Dan, you are absolutely right. Just A bit of mild humor on my end, please don't take it the wrong way...
BTW the part of the mount you mentioned is called pilot diameter and it doesn't need to be that long- it just locates the lens in the center of camera mount cavity..

Just finished one for the Cine Gear.
EVF included and special beefy mount for it.
I based it on Aaton and ENG cameras...

Busy busy Jacek, ha ha, love it, fill free to invoice me for the RPP 300m support btw.

I definitely am in on this mount for the canon 1DIV if not for anything to be used as Location scouting and Director's view finder, when my Epic-X is fully loaded and set up on the sticks.

Love the design and especially useful to me is the handle, which I wish you did something similar for the 300mm as well, just like on the support you sold me for the 18-85.

As far as been able to have 15mm or 19mm rods you should definitely make it part of the design it self, a must have.

As far as the bottom plate, I love the concept but it foes not need to be one piece, in fact I would love it much more if it was two pieces, so that one, you don't need to by the bottom piece if you don't needed it, and second, it will not be on the way when using the camera hands free as a on location still shots and or as Director's view finder.
Lastly I'm only interested really if it does clear all RPP and RPZ including the 18mm and the 300mm, the 17-50 and 18-85.

If all the above described is a possibility then you know my name and address he he, just invoice me.

PL to EOS

PL to EOS

I'm glad you like it.
You don't have to use the base plate with the PL-it's self contained- see post#49
All lenses you mentioned should work- but you'll need my PL mounts for them. I make these very affordably and once you switch the lenses are fine on both the RED and dslrs with my PL to EOS adapter. The EVF will also be compatible with the HDMI output on either camera
