  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon EF ZOOM / PRIME L Lenses versions (I vs. II)

And problem solved ;) But i really like I-st version 24-70mm. in still photoghraphy. it's really 'legend' for me. if II-nd version is better i just... i just do not know what to say ;)

I have had the first version and upgraded to the second version both the 16-35 and 70-200 f/2.8 L-series.
The original 16-35 was a little soft - very obvious on the 4K/5K raw images. The new one is quite a bit sharper...
The 70-200 is simply the best zoom Canon has ever thrown out (aside of the new C-series compact zooms - that I will review for here soon). This is my all-time favorite lens. The sharpness, IQ, bokeh - this is a dream lens...

About the 24-70 - the only reason I have not upgraded yet (aside from that fact that the 24-70 is actually 2nd gen of the 27-70) is that fact that a new (newer the then 2nd gen - which is actually a 3rd gen) is coming with optical image stabilization - and hopefully non-extending front element...

These three 2.8 zooms are the core of my lens package and I shoot 90% of my work on these lenses. I have also the 3rd gen 2x extender for the 70-200 that takes me to 400, albeit at 5.6, but still with amazing imagery when I need the extra reach...
These zooms will soon be complemented by the 4-lens C-series primes. These lenses are truly stunning. Canon's IQ combined with solid cine-mechanics and batter-smooth, but firm rings make these the best primes out there in its price range IMHO...
And when I win a lottery, or get a project that justifies it - I will get the two compact C-series zooms as well - which would then replace the 3 photographic zooms. Well - maybe not the 70-200... ;o)
But before these two zooms the priority is Dragon upgrade and a second Epic brain...

For me (ordinary DP on a tight budget) RED cameras with Canon lenses are the dream combination...

Peter, where did you read that there will be an IS version of the 24-70mm? It was rumored for a long time that the eventual 24-70mm II would have IS built-in, but Canon disappointed the masses.

Any estimated time frame as to when such a lens (24-70mm IS) will be release?

Q2 next year - but do not quote me on this... ;o)
