This is an independent evaluation made by fxguide and the ACS Technical Committee.

Surprising, the Canon seems to be sharper wide open than Ultra Primes

Article here: http://www.cinematographer.org.au/cms/page.asp?ID=20850

In fairness, that was for the 24mm, if you read the article. They compared four lens lengths, 24/35/50/85. The only time the UP seemed to fall hard was on the 24mm, as seen in the 5k corners (pretty bad, yes... but poor UP, having a wider angle-ish lens evaluated way outside it's image circle. Those lenses were made for 30mm image circle. :( ).

The 35, 50, and 85 were typically close races with UP's either in the lead or tied for the most part. Seems these lenses are quite the value. It did seem the canon's did outperform the CP.2's, quite often in the tests, although there isn't a 35mm Canon.

You need more then 4 lenses in set. 35mm will not do it. How about 14mm or Macro and 135mm?
and you also need PL mount!

I was just pointing out a essential focal length as part of the starting point. The complete package is pretty much double that when you look at the Ultra Primes.

Thanks for the correction Ryan. Considering the price point of the canons the performance is just outstanding, only if they had a 35mm and PL mount.

Bai,

You are on the money although as an owner operator I could compromise with an EF only mount. A 14mm f2.8 and a 135mm f2 have been announced for next year. While the 135mm is a good speed for this length a 14mm f2.8 does not do anything for me.

Hey Tom
Nothing beats the RPP for price point, mind you I just sold a set. My style required lighter rig. I have an extensive set of the L series, 24 1.4, 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, 100 macro, 135 2.0. So most of the time I have the ef mount on anyways, hence my interest in he Canon cine series
Also i have the 24-70mm 2.8 V1 and 70-200mm VII this is a sharp lens. GL optics just done a cine mod on these lenses.
I just love the image from my 35mm and the 135mm 2.0 is just unreal even at f2
I mentioned in the other post, Mark Toia work with the L series is just fantastic.
