  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon Announcement

I know that 1080p maybe be broadcast and projection spec currently. But future proofing your content is important. Shooting higher then resolving down looks better than acquiring AT the delivery spec. I mean, shooting film still happened when DV and HD cameras came out, because starting at the higher resolution looked better than shooting on a dvx100.

I cannot believe they are acquiring 1080p.

4k at 30p with a pro codec seems like the least they needed to compete... then it would have been good competition at least for the Red One.

so then you buys a 4K recorder...where does that put you $$$$ wise?

next year they put out a 4.4.4 version, the C400

I'll pass

It is like the friend that shows up to the party late with stale chips and warm beer.

Zacuto just released range of kit for it. They say its 10bit 4:2:2, uncompressed HD-SDI as well as HDMI

Well its good for TV then, and better if they can do S log out of the HDSDI port. Just use Ki Pro or Gemini.

Small form factor: Great
Lenes: Looks somewhat promising
Price: might be a hard sell for what you get.

It'll be interesting to see what happens nonetheless.

Someone's either going to be fired or praised for their efforts. Interesting times.

I have triple checked engaget, dvinfo and the live blogs.

The LENSES resolve 4k, the sensor is 4k, but there is no recording or output above 1080p.

glad to be wrong, but....

The existing customer base can only use the tools that the manufactures offer. There's no validity now that there are better tools offered, Canon missed the boat by offering old technology in 2012. Might as well pull dial-up back out of the closet.

Better tools = Cost More money. For the existing customers using DSLRs and camcorders, they can go out and buy the camera and use it out of the box with what they already have, which is how Canon designs their products. That trumps any idealism or nut busting about more advanced cameras being available and nobody else can say the same about their upcoming offerings at this time, except for RED, whose customers have invested in the appropriate gear to use with the RED product lines. It's business sense and it's playing safe, which works for Canon.

Here's the problem. They're charging more money for the same technology in a $3,000 camera. Not sure why you can't see what just happened.

word is it's a 4k(ish) S35 sensor (8.3 megapixels) @ 50mb/s... compare that to the 5k(ish) FF35 sensor (21.1 megapixel) @ 5mb/s of the 5d

the holdup (for both cams) lies somewhere between the processing power, media speed, and codec. whether or not this thing can capture and record sharp, pleasing images at resolutions above 2k is up for debate... is it possible they could release an update (unlikely for canon) or is this all leading up to their next release (and the next one, annnnd the next one...)?

EDIT: woah... $20k? :/

List price is $20,000 and we'll see these hit stores by the end of January 2012. Yes, 2012. As in this coming January. Worldwide.

fuck that....

I can hardly wait for our space family to release some real "revolutionary" technology.. Muhahahahhaa!
