I have been hearing a lot about people using the Canon 70-200 (and even heavier lenses) without lens support, this would be awesome as switching to our Tokina 80-200 is currently a serious pain with our lens support. Can someone with Red give us an official weight capacity for the Canon AL Mount? Thanks!

Spoke to Red, they confirmed the Canon 70-200 and any lens lighter should be fine without lens support, however, be careful with 3rd party adapters as they could be the weak link. Red also said they would see if they could release an official weight limit. Stay tuned.

Obviously, if RED publishes a "Max weight on lens mount" spec my next question would be answered. Will the lens mount support the weight of the camera, monitor and side handle? Handy for documantary work, some of the canon lenses, especially telephoto, have their own tripod mount. If used, these mounts would leave the camers hanging out in space supporting their own weight on the lens mount.

Interesting...

I don't think a general weight limit would make much sense considering the distribution of weight is a huge factor in the torque on the mount. A 2lb 2ft long lens might easily stress the mount more than a 5lb 4in long lens...
