  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon 5D / Nikon D3s lowlight test

Thanks for testing

Looks like 1080p upscale d3s is better than 1080p from 5d.

kinda my thoughts, but I'll test more today under better conditions, it was really dark and hard to judge focus on the canon. The nikon lcd seems to be more accurate at least in a really dark room... shoot with different lenses... canon 28-70 f/2.8 L and nikon 24-70 f/2.8...

I'm curious to see which handles optical flow noise reduction better.

I see. Try the resolution in normal light with the same lens please. I think that d3s 720p will be at least same quality like from 5d 1080p.

Hey Max- Does the d3s spit out a clean 1280x720 hdmi image while recording? Can you turn the image overlays off? Thanks!

there is an issue with the D3s hdmi out... every six frame is a repeat (stutter). It only happens when you plug-in the A/V or HDMI port.... once you pull the plug everything is ok.

I emailed nikon with my findings and a video link showing the issue. So far they have been straight with me and said they can recreate the problem. The issue was bumped up to QC and now engineering..

I'm not sure about overlays i'll check

I'm in China right now and can't access Vimeo. Can someone describe what they see on the Vimeo video?
I'm really interested in aliasing artifacts with the Nikon 3DS- is it a better performer than the Canon?
I'm guessing that if the Nikon is a better-looking picture upscaled to 1080P than the Canon is at 1080P, it may be because the line sampling/down conversion from the sensor is being done in a better way?
