Hi and a happy easter to all
i have an enquiry to rent my Red Dragon and they want to use the Canon 50-300 with it. My research shows that this lens weighs almost 7kgs, so will definitely need some sort of support. At present i have Action Products accessories which include 15mm light weight bars. I'm guessing that i probably need to invest in a decent arri type sliding base plate system, though i'm not sure which one. Obviously it's not just the support issue but getting the bars to the correct height in relation to the lens mount. Does anyone out there have any clues as to which way i should go with this? Thanks in advance..

Jim, are you talking the Canon 30-300 Cine zoom? I'm not familiar with a 50-300??

If your talking 30-300, then yes, you will definitely need a lens support. I do not believe it will match up to the correct height with LW 15mm rods from any MFG- not tall enough. I have either LW 15mm mount or 19mm dovetail/bridge plate on my Epics, but the diameter of the lens would not line up with LW15mm from my mount (Viewfactor). If you have a sliding dovetail in 15mm, then that might work? I always use 19mm dovetail/bridge plate when using that lens and it works great. No clearance issues, etc.

Hope that helps. Lens is amazing.
