Did a candle test on 15 before upgrading. The original 4k tiff files are 48MB each, but the max upload size on the boards here is a lot less. So here are 2 jpegs that won't show much due to the jpeg compression, but I can see the difference in the original files - much less noise, and the Raw color on 16 seems to pop. I also did an F900 test at the same time and can post a still later.

(Please move me to footage/field tests, as I posted in the wrong area. Thanks.)

Thanks wedowee. One thing you can do is crop a small section from each (to keep under pixel size limitation) that best demonstrates the differences and save those at highest jpg setting possible to keep under file size limitation. Upload those if you can next to these.

Very Cool Wedowee... What was your camera settings for 15 and 16 ?

Yea, Redspace is unreal..

I love how we can jump from RAW to REC709 to REDspace in an instant.

This new build is like Gold

Camera settings were made to match each other - 320ASA, 23.98fps, 1/48 shutter, 3200K temp, RedCode36 to RedDrive. No adjustments were made to the photos, but I will do a 1:1 crop and upload it as large as I can.

Wow.. those colors are really popping! You didn't make any adjustments?

A few clicks in Photoshop and I could get the build 15 version to look the same (though a little noisier) but I think the major advantage is now people can build a nice look in camera and potentially just export right out of FCP or Red Alert with no alterations.

Huge timesaver.

You can hand off the footage to anyone and there's a nice look attached. If they are an experienced colorist they can discard the look and start from "Scratch" if desired. But many will just want to edit and render. What I've found is just exporting straight from FCP and skipping RedCine/RedAlert can render some really nice stuff. Maybe not as nice as RedCine, but it's quick.

That few clicks in PS might be true to a degree on a small screen but I think if you blow up B16 and project it then you will really see the difference. IMO

I did my own ISO 1600 build 15 vs. 16 quick torture test so I can see that the noise is nicer in 16.

The colorimetry may have improved but this particular shot probably won't show it. Build 15 "pops" just fine with some color correction. Always has. What we're seeing here is that build 16 has nicer curves built into the camera's metadata and it flows into post... so we should see a lot nicer "uncorrected" footage being posted going forward.

1:1 zoom

1:1 zoom

I cropped a 1:1 area on both tiffs, but the focus was not sharp on the parts that would have revealed the most. I did see the noise was substantially lower in build 16 in the blue channel. Here are the photos as jpegs anyway. I hurried the test in anticipation of the upgrade, and should have taken my time with it.

Start pushing both photos to the extreme. B16 can be pushed quite a bit more before breaking up. unlike B15.

Huge difference in the blue channel. I likes!!!!

Keep the comparisons coming folks.
