  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can we just buy the cable assembly only for RED ONE battery plate to convert to Epic?

It would be nice if we can purchase only the power cable assembly for the Epic battery plaste to replace the RED ONE battery plate, so we can inexpensively convert the RED ONE battery plate to Epic.

Great idea!

And then build a simple, lightweight version of the complete plate in the same design language as the rest of the EPIC AKS.

The Red One plate is on the clunky side.

I took the R1 battery plate we had spare, and had a tech change the lemo connector on the existing plate/cable to be sorted for the epic...total cost $128:) No more 2B-1B connector with two feet of cable! Put it on a RED universal mount we had and now have a perfect mounted VLOCK plate on rods for the EPIC!
From my understanding from our tech said that now he has the pin config he could make one up at a cinch with any other vlock plate...like the $50 ones from Global media Pro...or any other third party better quality block plates. A whole plate assembly with connector for epic will be from $185 upwards depending on the make of the plate.

Brigham... share the techs name and contact info?

I would love the same dual-v-lock Switronix I have for my R1 in an Epic flavor. I even have a spare Switronix single, unwired plate in my garage bag (well, it is really a plastic storage tub with"Stuff" in it)

With the Red One Battery Charger there was a long cable for powering the R1 direct. This cable has a male Lemo plug at each end. What I've done is cut this into two cables and put the same male connector on one and a female connector on the other. Choose the lengths your self. I now have what is a slightly shorter DC an extension lead for R1 power fittings, making it possible to use the R1 battery plate on the belt and then the adaptor cable for the Epic. Works very well.

You can get the connectors direct from Lemo or other suppliers - cost about $20 (£14 here in the UK) and if you are reasonably handy with a soldering iron you don't need any tech to do it for you.

Cheers

Could you post a picture of these cables? Love this idea...

A cable with Epic power lemo and flying leads would be really useful - for those who have generic v-lock plates and for those of us who bought the Red One v-lock and 1B-2B adapter because the dedicated Epic plate with connector wasn't available at the time.

I can on Monday, but it's just the standard cable with a male and female plug inserted (anywhere) in its length so that can be the same cable as before, or detached to make two.

Last time I asked RED they said no (to an EPIC lemo to flying lead) - I think the way I understand it the way the battery plates are made, an EPIC lemo to flying lead is not a 'part' in itself, I think they make the whole thing at the same time.

With this part it would be an easy conversion. However going the other way (snipping off the R1 lemo and putting on an EPIC lemo) is a bit harder. The pins are very closely spaced. I would consider myself an intermediate at soldering and electronics work and I have chosen not to reterminate my plates with an EPIC lemo as I'm not 100% confident I will get it right (and thus damage the camera)

Scott, just a regular tech here locally in Brisbane, Australia. If you must the company is QLD CABLE AND CONNECTORS but really, it's a very simple job of taking one end off and replacing it with another. I have the 2B/1B cable and said here...match this! I am yet to make up a complete generic one from scratch as i don't need to as i bought a few spare RED plates when they used to stock them. But it's very simple once you have the pin config and i wouldn't see the need to get someone overseas to do it. And i got them to check, re-check and re-check in front of me with a multimeter. I also have the 4pin XLR power cable for the EPIC from RED for industry standard XLR DC power....it's a very simple job for a cable tech.
