  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CAN USE SCARLET WITH TASCAM DR-100?

I'm not sure what you mean by asking if it works with Scarlet. The Tascam DR-100 is a portable audio recorder. If you're trying to record audio, then you can wire your mics to the DR-100, record and then overlay and sync the audio with the footage from the Scarlet in post.

By the way, YOUR CAPS LOCK IS ON.

I hope this is what you are wondering, but I don't really have any idea because you sentences aren't coherent. I hear Hooked on Phonics is a great curriculum.

I agree with you in that his sentences aren't very coherent, but suggesting "Hooked on Phonics" is just plain insulting. If you'd do any research, you would know that Jonathan is from the Domican Republic. His primary language is Spanish. Try to be a little more welcoming to REDuser's international visitors, Samuel.

Since scarlet is 24 bit (unlike most cameras) then it should provide superior recording (depending on the pre-amps), but an external device has to be used for 48v and send the output into scarlet (hopefully its got line level input too)

"Junior Member" - go figure, Brian. I have a feeling we'll see a lot more of this as more (dare I say?) N00bs start to trickle in...

Keep it civil, Samuel. Don't be a douche.

As long as you have the DR-100 configured to supply phantom power, having the mic connected to the recorder, and the recorder connected to the Scarlet would work fine.

It would look like this:
Sennheiser MKH-60 ----- XLR Cable ----- Tascam DR-100 (Headphone Out) ----- 3.5mm Mini Connector ----- Scarlet (Audio In)

i have Sennheiser MKH-60 Phantom 48v and i planing buys carlet do not know if work with this shotgun

Hola!

For those of us (like me) who don't speak Spanish, this is what he's saying:

You need to get adapters from 3.5 mm to XLR.

Something like this:

Sorry, my Spanish is very bad writing - too long ago ... 20 years or more!

The Tascam DR100 is ok if you don't have other options but after using it on a couple of projects I'd be amazed (and disappointed) if Scarlet didn't have better audio capture quality direct into camera.

Hm. Well I've never worked with an Epic or Scarlet but my Tascam DR-100 has far superior sound quality compared to some Marantz I;ve used that are in the $600-$800 price range. I'm just not sure how good the Epic or Scarlet sound quality is. Has anyone done some tests or samples? It would be great to compare the Tascam and Scarlet recorded with the same mic at the same time. If the Scarlet is better then bam props to RED again.

Don't misunderstand, I've found it useable but it is certainly not as good at capturing audio as say plugging XLR's straight into an EX, XF or any other camera in that range. Just my opinion after using it :)

Cheers, Simon

I have the DR 100. It does a decent job. I and many other users reporting on the web, however, often find it's Gain to be lacking and signals often have to be boosted in post. It does not have timecode. One thing I hate about it is the proprietary rechargeable battery. It can only be charged in unit and though the recorder also holds AA's, mine won't seem to run off them alone. So... if the rechargeable runs out of juice, you're dead.

I'm about to pick up a Sound Devices 702T (timecode). I think 2 tracks will be enough for the interviews which make up the only live sound portion of my work and this unit should be the last I ever have to buy *crosses fingers*.
