  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can someone explain this exposure situation for me?

No, Zebras are there to show you video levels of the HD-SDI output.

Since all the other exposure meters are designed to reflect the raw image, why did you guys decide to make the zebras reflect the HD-SDI output? Is this for people who want to actually capture the HD-SDI signal, or is there a hardware limitation that makes this the only option?

Thanks for being so patient and taking the time to answer our questions, Stuart.

Nowhere in the user manual is this mentioned. Zebras are usually mentioned in the same contex as false color, etc, without this differentiation ever being noted.

Maybe that's something that could be looked into, Stuart?

I want to monitor in Redcolor and have my monitor show zebra stripes over whatever part of the frame is clipping in the raw image.

Yes, just set your Zebra to 99, which is why it is the default value.

So setting the Zebra to 99 will show actual clipping in the raw image even if I'm watching Redcolor?

No wonder people are a little confused...

Is there any reason the False Color (exposure) colors can't be overlayed on the normal, non b&w Redcolor image?
That would seem to give most people what they are needing.

Seems to me that everyone here is wanting to know actual RAW clipping areas, when monitoring in Redcolor, at any desired ISO, in color, not black and white.
Why... as an aid to exposure, so one can see what may be recovered in Post.

I too would love a zebra pattern to show what the red fizzle does now, over a color image.

Basically a "zebra raw clip" function.

Exactly. With the M-X sensor, slight underexposure has basically become a non-issue. I want to watch the image in Redcolor and know exactly which part is overexposing in the Raw file. Zebra stripes would be the least distracting way to convey that information while rolling.

No, that is the way it works.

This is the reason I still using B21 until my Mx come to me, That way.

False color to see my middle point and then monocrome to see if we are over-under...??? many Dp´s thinks It´s confusing. And IRE can´t go over 100???.

I can understand RAW meters are more accurate... but still with B21.
