  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Maximum playback framerate without a single node is about 22fps. When I turn off Decklink preview the system is playing project with 18 nodes in realtime.
I am talking about XDCAM 35mbit VBR from Sony F3 and ProRes422HQ.

The same difference in playback is happen with R3D files.

Difference in playback speed are noticable with or without additional GPU-s. Machine is superfast when Decklink isn't in use.

MacPro 3.1 8core 3ghz
10gig RAM
8800GT
GTX295 2gig

Any one have similar problem?
Thanks!

I assume you're talking about the Resolve?

If you are talking about Resolve, I'm not sure how you would disable the DeckLink preview? But if you are talking about Resolve, DeckLink HD2 is not a supported card, so that may be part of the problem.

Yes of course.
Just tried to use GTX295 as GUI and everthing is working fine. So if 8800GT is used for GUI Decklink performance falling down.

This makes no sense but it's working :-/

Can you try to set your Video Monitoring to 8-bit and see if that helps? This setting was added specifically for 2008 Mac Pros.

You won't be able to use all the cores/RAM on that 295 since there's no proper drivers for it... The 880GT is a bad idea for GUI card and flipping the two, you would lose any acceleration benefits of that faster GPU as a processing card. The Decklink card is also not on the supported list as other people have pointed out. Don't know if that's completely the issue. EDIT> nevermind, it seems you have a supported Decklink card. And it works when you have the configuration as in your last post. However, I don't see where you will get any usable GPU acceleration. Playback may be real-time, but how about once you actually add nodes?

Another bottleneck you may run into is the Mac Pro itself. The 2008 3,1 Mac Pro doesn't typically have the memory throughput to handle realtime in Resolve at 1080p+ Which is why they have the 8bit monitoring setting, as Rohit suggests.

Thank you people!

I've set a 18 nodes of masks, blurs, correction with qualifiers and everything is realtime now in 1080. GTX 295 is acutally 2 x GTX260 on one board. Resolve see GTX295 as 2 GPUs. I used just netkas injector, restarted Mac and card started to working properly. System says that each GPU have 512MB but CUDA apps can see all available RAM.

In a sentence... I'm impressed with the speed.

Didn't realize the OSX drivers would see the dual GPUs... Got my head working a bit now, thinking up other new things I don't have time to experiment with. ;)
