  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can I make a broadcast wildlife doc with Red?

I will definitely post once we've worked out all the bugs. The last few days we've been running with a 3 man crew. Main shooter, focuser and data manager. Part of the reason for a focuser is our 150-600 century converted canon lens. I believe gibby has the same lens. We are working on a motor system for the focus though, once that is taken care of, we'll be back down to our two man crew.

I will let you guys know our workflow and settings when we get things ironed out!

I do own a Canon 150-600, but it has the Century PL conversion for the mount only. The rest of the lens is stock, the way Canon made it. Thus my 150-600 does not have gears. I prefer it that way because I really like the push/pull sliding lever on the left side of the lens for zooming, and twisting the same lever for racking focus. Thus I don't need to/want to use the lens with a follow focus, and never with a matte box. Filters are 40.5mm screwed onto the camera end of the lens. I operate the 150-600 by myself, focusing by myself using the stock Canon push/pull/twist lever, and sight focusing using the RED EVF in black and white, sometimes with edge color, and 2x image magnification. I've found I can focus the 150-600 very accurately by myself. I also set exposure accurately by simply using zebra, occasionally using histogram when I have time.

I usually shoot to a RED Drive for long-form programming, but I also have 10 CF cards I can go to when I need them. I wrangle the data myself in the evenings at home or at the hotel, or if I have a larger crew, I have an assistant wrangle the data.

85 seconds here too, for build 15 release version

startup times went up a bit in the previous builds as we were adding new stuff, but we are getting them back down again starting in build 16.
