  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can i Format RED Mag on PC?

Disk Utility on a Mac?

I use FATFormat32 utility. It's freeware: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

The only catch is that you can't have anything open that would be holding the drive. In my case that is the 1Beyond Wrangler copy/verify utility and Windows Explorer. My DMT copies, verifies, checks the footage then wipes the card before sending it back so the AC isn't being warned that there are any clips on the drive he/she is about to format. ...that way if a mag is loaded and warns of existing clips it is sent right back to make sure we aren't wiping anything that hasn't yet been copied/verified.

i've tried to format in fat32 but it's still not recognized by the camera...
did someone tried this before?
maybe its missing the files that comes inside the card... something (.bin) i believe..
or the name of the disk is not ok..?
could someone send me the files that comes inside the mag?
my email is nicholas@gridsuportes.com

I advise hitting up your bomb squad rep for advice, or I can send you the file if you really want, but I'd run it by them first to make sure what you need. I know a lot of DPs and AC's like doing the wipes not in camera but for situations like this, that is why I typically insist on doing it in camera to avoid deleting the firmware to run the card by mistake. It just seems like a safer bet, and just have numbers/tape on the mags to signify if its been checked
