Is it possible to turn drx on by default it camera? I don't remember it being an option on epic and it didn't look like it shows up in the scarlet menu map I saw. If not, are we doomed to monitoring and showing directors purple highlights? And are people recording to external recorders stuck with burnt in purple highlights?

Do you mean HDRx? (High Dynamic Range. Not sure what the X stands for. Could very well be just a Red naming thing. But HDR is a photography thing that's been around for quite some time. To the point that it's ubiquitous enough to be BUILT INTO the default Camera app of an iPhone.)

I think he's asking about the DRX setting that you can use in REDCine-X and wants to know whether you can change that in the looks on camera

No, I mean DRX, the look option that realigns R G B clip levels so that they occur at the same level, removing the early green clipping that causes purple highlights. I believe it may also be also intended as a form of highlight recovery.

If it isn't an in-camera option, couldn't it be done by exporting a look from Redcine?

My understanding is that any option not available in camera (such as lift gamma gain and possibly DRX) cannot be applied in camera. I'm just basing this on what I remember Graeme saying about Lift, Gamma, Gain options not working in camera.

No one has any idea or has tested? I'm always amazed how often I see professional stuff shot on RED that has those ugly purple highlights... A couple of shots in Contagion had it, as well as the SCCE camera tests. DRX is a fix for it, and I can't really imagine why it wouldn't be always turned on by default and available in camera. If it isn't available in camera, shouldn't it really be a priority to make it work?

If a look is exported from RCX that includes DRX or lift/gamma/gain, and those are not supported in camera, will they still be part of the look when the footage comes back into RCX? That might be an ok option though it would be best to be able to see a completely corrected image in camera so we actually know what we are getting...

REVIVAL of a dead thread!

Now that LGG is enabled in-camera, is DRX on MX in-camera a possibility? How about a flag that auto-enables it in the embedded "sidecar" info?

Mike I totally agree with this. I've asked for this since 2013! If RED can default DRX to "on" that would be awesome! Still a lot of MX cameras out there that could benefit from this.

The slider is okay (you can see in the histogram when the tips of the channels align, and sometimes it doesn't need full strength), but yeah, it'd be sweet if it could be enabled on-camera for the monitor path or, if that's not possible, at least have the option to "auto-on" it in the embedded metadata for use with every application that has native r3d support.
