Hello Guys,

Just returned from shooting a EPK for a Latin Artist in DR. We took our trusty Camtram for some added production value. I can't stress how much I love this unit for globetrotting!!! I simply request a ladder before my arrival and 99% of the time it's there waiting for me. The other 1% I have had my AC go buy one from a hardware store.

Also pictured is the Arri MMB-1 & FF-1 which rocked as well!!! It's light weight and low cost make it ideal for my application. All can be had by our trusted decade long vendor- Jonathan Epner @ Abel Cine, NYC.

I will post some footage when I get clearance.

Wow, that Camtram is flipping brilliant! I've seen many camera dollies and track setups before but I've never seen one quite like that! I like it!... is it smooth? Does it work as well as it looks like it would?

Super Smooth!!!! I would say that it works better than it looks but it's so well made that I can't say that.... It is precision machined and assembled. Wheels are machined with Silicon O-rings that give it a silky smooth ride.

I've got the CamTram too and love it. I find it works better when the camera isn't too long. With the 24 inch rods on there, it's a bit wide, and wobbles a touch when you stop it (more noticeable on long lenses).

It helps if you hang your drives and battery upside down to keep the center of gravity lower too.

Overall, cheapest/raddest toy in the toolbox...That and the ET Mantis :)

That holds true for everything with the Red and cameras in it's same weight class. I just received a Arrow 55 and it does a slight (hairline) wobble when fully loaded. I like my drive/batt cradle on the top mounts w/rods but have had to bring them back down to the bottom rods in order to lower the center of gravity. Trying to decide whether my Arrow is defective or thats the way it is???

It is pretty incredible how a 40lbs.+ Red rig renders all your support gear useless. They should post a warning that Red requires a $12k tripod. That being said, my $400 CineSaddle works great!!!

For anyone who appreciates the beauty of a well-crafted bit of engineering, the CamTram is a joy. Beyond being so clever a device, the CamTram is also built to exacting standards of precision and strength. There are cheapo knockoffs available on the web, and all that I have seen cannot hold a candle to the CamTram.

Disclaimer: Abel is the exclusive worldwide distributor of the CamTram.

It is surely the V1, as there is no other newer model than the V2, unless something is really, really new that I'm not aware of.

The only two models are the original CamTram and then the current CamTram 2500.

We just bought a CamTram from Abel and are looking forward to giving it a proper RED shakedown cruise in the Mexican desert next month.

Mitch,

Aren't there 2 original models??? The 1000 & the 1500??? The 1500 is the one with the screw in (from the top) brakes like mine... correct???

Doh, forgot about that! You are completely correct, although I do believe there was a mod kit made available at the introduction of the 1500 so that the original 1000 could be upgraded.

Thanks for the correction.

So here's the deal. If you want a really superb, portable track made for the CamTram, you must check out the "Track In The Box" @ www.TrackInTheBox.net. In full disclosure, I designed it. The fine folks at CamTram Systems have given me a link from their site to help me get the ball rolling.

So check this out. Everyone seems to be totally in love with their CamTram... so am I. But i f you want to fall in love with it all over again you must give it a ride on the new 'Track In The Box". You'll never go back to a clumsy, cheesy ladder again. www.trackinthebox.net. Prices may soon go up. Two distributors have expressed an interest in this revolutionary cool tool.
