  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CAMP RED - AUGUST

We got a mention today on "the daily" the iPad newspaper :)
Now millions of people will know about Camp RED. I'm Already a bit panicked that we are only going to have 50 kids per week for this first summer :)

Thanks for the heads up, the wife is signing two of my boys up as I type this.

Update: Done. Yay!

I can not express in off how much this program really ROCKS!!

At the KETCH ROSSi STUDiOS, with the "SCHOOL of DREAMS" program, we will be doing exactly the same thing every summer for children that go to school,
while maintaining also a regular Film and *Cinephotography School for adults FREE to all Winners of the program paid for by KETCH ROSSi HUMANiTAS,
that will take place in the new studios facilities in Rome Italy.

I again can not stress in off how important programs such as this are essential to the growth of the new era of Filmmakers!!

WELL DONE!!!

We have finalized the details for week 3 - the sleep away camp will be held in Malibu, about 2 miles in from PCH in the canyon at the Shalom Institute. A perfect camp with a Ropes Course, Swimming Pool and horseback riding - a lot of fun and great backdrops for the campers to use the skills they learned during their time at Camp RED in Hollywood. The registration information is up at http://campred.eventbrite.com - also put a gallery of photos of the camp on the REDucation photo gallery page http://gallery.me.com/reducation

We are looking to have 40 or so campers join us for 5 days and will mix camp activities with hands on learning - first thing we have to do is build an outdoor 4K theater!

Lots of Kids and EPICs at Camp RED

First day of Camp RED is in the books and what a first day it was, exhausting and exhilarating! - I had a feeling it was going to be fun having 50 kids at RED Studios shooting EPIC and RED ONE, but it exceeded even my expectations on how much fun it was!

In this case Pictures are much more valuable than me trying to tell you all the fun things that happened on the very first day... Here is a selection of the first day of Camp that I've posted on the REDucation and Camp RED Filckr photo site.

More to come as we start editing the projects and preparing for the First Camp RED film festival for all the kids and parents on Friday night.

I teach filmmaking to children and young talents in Denmark, and develop workshop metods and structures. This set up looks breathtaking! Can I read somewhere about how you guys structured the workshops?

Simon,

It has been an amazing learning experience for the adults as well. Send me a PM and I will send you over a few of our daily schedules and would appreciate your input so we can be even better next year.

Brian

Justin - we will definitely need the help next year, I have a feeling Camp RED 2012 is going to be an even bigger event.

Team Red,

Next year would you consider having a sleep over week that covers what week 1 and 2 cover. I would love to send my child but don't live in LA. I want a true week camp where he's bunked and fed etc. It looks like that's what week 3 is but I couldn't sent him to week 1 or 2.

This camp looks awesome and I like many others would have loved it as a kid. Thanks for providing this opportunity.

Just send you a PM. If you guys would like a councelor/assistant from Denmark next year, I also volunteer ...

David,

We will have much more info after we complete this year's program. Our thought was to have week three full of students who already have knowledge of the camera and workflow so we can be more successful when we sleep away.

Camp RED has been amazing, the work we will screen tomorrow night is absolutely incredible.

I spent some time yesterday as a guest of Ted's at Camp Red up at the Shalom Institute in the Malibu mountains. I had a smile on my face the entire time watching these great young kids make part of their short film.
And the fine friend of RED, J. Hutton making a behind the scenes doc, on an Epic of course.

I can see this all being an annual event and I can't tell you how proud I am of Ted and the RedCamp team in promoting and nurturing the future filmmakers. As my gaffer said, "Well they will either be your future competition or your future bosses!"

At their age I got an hold Canon still camera which I tought was empty, and only after years a film inside was discovered and developed, that is how I become a Photographer, he he,
this kids today get to play with the absolute very latest in Digital Cinema Acquistion in the hands of the experts in the biz teaching them.... WOW how much I wish I was just a kid at CAMP RED ha ha!!

FANTASTIC IDEA AND FANTASTIC JOB YOU GUYS ALL ARE DOING!!

I'm just back to civilization today from a week of Camp RED in Malibu.

The last 3 weeks have exceeded all of our expectations and I would not hesitate one bit to get Camp RED going next year, based on watching the kids shoot, edit, learn by doing and most importantly have a great time doing it with no fear and basically no learning curve at all.. they just dove in, figured it out and had tons of fun.

Here's the link to the last couple rounds of pictures from the Camp. (we took a lot of pictures :-) You will see the campRED photo group here:

http://gallery.me.com/reducation

the Malibu week starts at pix #280 in this large group of photos. More pictures are coming when I get them into my Mac and uploaded.

In addition to the small selection of the shots here, I'll try and do a "best of Camp RED" photo group sometime next week in the process of catching up for those that want a smaller group of photos to forward to friends, family, relatives, etc. and now we will have a bit of time to get a lot of work the kids shot with EPICs and RED ONEs up on Vimeo to see online, while a small group of our Camp Kids are cutting the Alien Invasion Movie they shot at Camp RED Malibu this past week…

The Camp RED team was absolutely phenomenal - they really made the Camp come alive with energy and youthful exuberance - couldn't have come close to pulling this off successfully without them!

Now back to a bit of real life work (although I must say Camp is waaaaaay more rewarding than answering a back log of emails from the past few weeks :-)

Thanks to all that had the courage to send their kids to the very first Camp RED! The first time you do something, you never know how it might turn out - I cant' tell you how much we appreciate it.

Now the team here is off to prep for REDucation UK in early Sept., IBC in Mid. Sept. and the next REDucation focusing on EPIC production and Post at RED Studios Hollywood at the end of Sept. The fun never stops!

It was absolutely amazing experience for everyone! We had a ton of fun the third week at beautiful camp in Malibu! It's so cool to be around this amazing group of talented people! You should be ready to see the kids work online if you haven't seen it at film festival at red studios - you will be shocked! It's brilliant.

anyway.. back to normal life and once again: thank you RED!
