  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CAMP RED - AUGUST

Very cool video and quite informative. And, Ted, your kids are beautiful! (But you already knew that.)

I again bow my head before the vision and passion that RED has.

One of the first things I did with our RED One was our kids (then 4 and 7) have a go with them - I was amazed how quickly they grasped some rather abstract concepts, and how concentrated they could work.

My daughter would be perfect for this - except the language thing. Maybe summer 2012 could be the time for a camp in Germany? I could help out.

Hehe, I pretty much see it the same way like you do.

My son is now 9, the girls are 6 and 1 1/2, so unfortunately they have to wait, and the language is a barrier as well.

But why not establish something similar over here?

And of course, they are not TOO young to do animation:

Thats an animation my son and I did when he was about 2 1/2 years old. He understood the concept pretty quick of doing stop motion animation. I do strongly believe its the best way to train people for any kind of animation work anyway.

Unfortunately the RED ONE was to heavy for him to really play with, so things might changed when we get our EPICs.

Cheers,
Axel

PS: TED, a really good idea. I send my son to summer camps every year, and its the high light. The girls can't wait to follow. We did many ads for Marlboro Adventure Team, which is essentially the same for grownups...

New member of RED here - and lucky enough to get to work on Camp RED with Ted and the rest of the team. We have finalized the details for Camp RED and the registration page is now live - http://campred.eventbrite.com/

We are offering two one-week sessions, August 1st and August 8th - campers are welcome to take one or both of the sessions. Week three we are working on a very cool idea that will be open to the campers from weeks one and two. Camp days will be 9 to 5 with a 4K screening of camper footage scheduled for the last evening of each week.

Look forward to having your kids join us in August - we will keep updating the schedule here and on www.red.com/learn/campred

Awesome.

Fake ID. Check. $500. Check. Looking forward to it!

I Just subscribed my 12 year old daughter to Camp RED, I told her that I'm really jealous, so she suggested to put myself in the dryer a million times!:banghead:

Hehe... You could probably get away with it. Just leave the hat at home. ;)

I'm thinking about trying too, The wife tells me all the time that I act 12 years old...

Great idea, surprisingly low price. Wish i could be 12 again...

Before you send your kids to camp red think about what will happen when they're coming home. They will be full with ideas, plans and lots of new knowledge. They have seen whats possible. So they'll beg the hell out of you until you buy a Scarlett or EPIC, because they'll never touch one of those cheap video-cams or dslrs again (and you can't blame them for that) . ;-)

BTW, i hope we see some results, maybe a few shorts made by the kids? Could be great to see what young talents can archive with those tools.

Not trying to be critical but I wish you could have something similar for people 16-22 years of age. That would be great. I know a lot of people who fit into that group who are very serious about going into the industry. Then again, there is reducation so I don't know.

Whoa - $500??? And that includes room and board for the kids?? Or am I missing something? Sooooo inexpensive, I can't believe it. I really thought the price would be in the thousands ....

EDIT: Just read the description again, this appears to be the price for them attending from 9-5pm, Mon-Fri - no room and board - which makes more sense. Still an amazing deal though. Wish I had this when I was younger, I would have gone all three weeks each summer :)

Its just a start, the first one... If camp red succeeds (and who doesn't think it does) it will probably evolve. I'm sure red knows there is more demand. ;-)

According to earlier posts, they want people above the age of 18 to go to Reducation, but I do think it would be appropriate to have age-specific groups if it's practical for RED to do so. Just my two cents.

I think this would be a huge success! Thinking a similar camp idea, one-two weeks, and reasonably priced (doesn't have to be 500$...just reasonable) with ages 16-22. Wonder how many would sign up for THAT? Anyways, great initiative and looking forward to more like it hehehe ... :)

(and yes, REDucation is already great but there is room for a lot more...)

Ohhhh

My guy is getting ready.... for next year:

He's only 8 at the mo.

I told him it's in LA.

'Daddy, it's OK, I can get on a plane myself'

I'm not going to hear the last of this for some time!

You guys are a bad influence... I think he would fake ID to get in!

Mike

I would definitely send my 4 year old if this is still happening when he is old enough. He loves making movies!

We got a mention today on "the daily" the iPad newspaper :)
Now millions of people will know about Camp RED. I'm Already a bit panicked that we are only going to have 50 kids per week for this first summer :)
