  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CAMP RED - AUGUST

These are Cajun kids Jarred...they wrestle alligators for breakfast.

Haha. Too funny Greg.

Hollywood Hills Jarred? Yah those Coyotes are pretty scary, I know a bunch of people who've lost small dogs or the occasional cat to them. It's really sad.

On a serious note guys -- this is obviously a fantastic idea. But I think what you also see is that there is strong demand for an adult version -- something that's perhaps more intense than Reducation. Like a 1-2 week intensive where pros pay more ... live at the studio ... and go really deep with all this. In addition to Mark, you could have guest lecturers like David Mullen and Michael Cioni, and so on. It would be amazing and worth whatever price you charged.

Okay, I know Reducation offers a lot of this already and is 3-5 days. I'm not dissing it or saying it's not adequate, I'm sure it's fantastic and hope there's a later one I can attend this year.

Just sayin' that camp-like intensive that lasts a bit longer would be amazing, would allow you guys to cover things that may not currently fit into Reducation and even at $5,000- $10,000 per week I'm sure you would have some takers. Also, you could even work some sort of certification into it so that those who want to teach or talk about Red publicly have gone through this and are saying the right things and not misrepresenting the camera or work flow.

:-) I haven't had a chance to read all the posts here on the thread, but read some, and want to thank you all for all your responses and being so enthusiastic about the idea on where we are going with it.

On the age range questions... I can see other camps down the road for different age ranges, and even a fantasy camp for grown ups some day for those not in the industry that want to get a feel for what it's like... We are just getting started with this, and if the amount of interest already is any indication of where we are heading with it, I think we are going to have some serious fun this summer!

For those already in the biz in some fashion, or ready to work professionally with the RED - you want to take REDucation - ask the people that have been in the class - they will tell you that it's like movie camp for Grown ups :-) and a super intensive deep dive REDucation, yes - also in the works (we are starting that program with this next class, with the 2 day advanced Cinematography and Advanced Post classes that are the last 2 days of REDucation in May)

More details and pricing on camp when we are ready to get that info up... certainly looks like it's going to fill up fast.

Thanks.

+ Ted

I think the concept is absolutely great. I have been working with development of filmtalents in Denmark on many levels. And I actually find children to be the most inspiring filmstudents. And the use of RED cameras with kids and youngsters give meaning.

Most photography workshops for kids today use cheap compact cameras. But when I was 10-12 we where introduced with tools like Nikormat, Nikon F and good, manual glass. So what is abstract in photo and video for most kids today, whas the very heart of the teaching in the 70'thies. I hope you guys at CampRED are not afraid of getting in to the core of good cinematography with kids, because they can, and they will love it!

If only leaders in danish filmtalent developing had the same vision.

This is a brilliant program.

Educating youth is not only a services to the industry & the art, but it is also a good business move (eg Apple).

In Ontario their is a mobile sailing school, which brings boats to kids, and it is quite popular and a great way to get kids doing something positive.

Thats the idea, but I would love to see something like that for Red. Certified trainers who can bring the equipment and experience where ever there is a demand.

Would love to send my 12-year-old daughter and my 14-year-old nephew.

Can't wait to hear more.

This is why I love Red so much. What a crazy and cool idea!

This is the true revolution , as someone who has run lots of day camps for kids i would like to congratulate red for the contribution to the media literacy of the youth. I will continue the same here in my little town , presentley on dvx1000 but upgrading to scarlet when it is ready. thanks Graham

Art, I understand what you're sayinh, but having a class solely focused on a camera could be seen as teaching about using a scalpel without an anatomy lesson before..

Too, true. It's all in balance. You have to learn things in the right order and in the right combination with each other. Camera classes are useless without cinematography, and not much of a point without a story to tell.

This is brilliant on so many levels. Nice one Ted!

Great idea, Ted!!! Wish I could contribute but will be crazy busy in Aug. maybe next year!

I again bow my head before the vision and passion that RED has.

One of the first things I did with our RED One was our kids (then 4 and 7) have a go with them - I was amazed how quickly they grasped some rather abstract concepts, and how concentrated they could work.

My daughter would be perfect for this - except the language thing. Maybe summer 2012 could be the time for a camp in Germany? I could help out.

Here's my youngest daughter operating the R1 for a little weekend animation project, at that time she was 4 years.

Her older sister also got to operate for her little piece.

Here's Eva's (4) result:

And Liv (then 7): first try:

And a pretty advanced second try:

I helped in the editing, but they chose the colors and the music.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Legos were my favorite toys as a child (still are in fact). Now i build with shots and pages of a script not blocks, but Legos challenged my imagination more than anything so I woulnd't put them off as a simple children's toy. Thinking about it, this is an awesome program, and if i was a kid age 9-15 and into film, this would be better than xmas....unless xmas meant an epic-m :P

Great time to get the kids started Martin. They're already so talented. Got one on the way.

Well this sure beats tennis camp as a kid...

great idea!

... at camp graduation all the kids should get a tattoo and a box of cigars :)
