I have two cameras. One works great. The other has had booting problems since unboxing. Usually the solution has been unplugging the monitor or drive and then booting with nothing but power connected. However now the camera doesn’t boot at all. All that happens when I push the power button is the rear LCD flashes on and off. No text at all. Has anyone run into this?

Thanks much

Try unplugging all, including the power cord. Press the power on and hold for 10 secs. Plug in power and see if it works. Lim

twlim you are a hero. That worked so thanks much. Now I wonder why that worked. Was there some sort of capacitance that needed to be discharged by holding the button down with nothing plugged in?

Yes, according to previous posts, the Camera needs to discharge some kind of electrical built up. Keep the Camera shooting, you should be okay from now on - Lim

Well I restarted it again and the same problem. But this time holding down the power button with nothing plugged in doesn't work. I guess I will give it time and try again but what happens on set when we change a battery?

This is problem with many cameras, ours included, that Red has thus far not addressed. It's frustrating, but hey 17K for a paper weight isn't so bad.

Nick.

I have not yet. I was hoping for an easy fix. :(

During a project here with 4 reds on the location we are experiencing boot problems as well. There are differences between the cameras, but now and then each of them has it. One needs quite a few tries, with disconecting power and pressing the power button a few times, others will just start fine by switching off, waitinga few seconds and starting again.
But none of the has remained silent for more than a few minutes during a whole week of shooting. Not so bad when a Sony F35 ist acting up again and again because it's still in beta… (it's great at night, though)

I had similar problem a couple of weeks ago.

Bomb Squad Sean Ruggeri advised me to send the camera back for evaluation. They replaced the CPU board and the camera has been booting without a hiccup since.

By the way, RED Support did an excellent job in terms of response time, turnaround time and shipping, etc. Really appreciate it.

Im on Build 15 2.2.5 by the way

If you can not send it back for the time being, try this.

Flash the camera with an older build, then flash it again with 15 2.2.5.

WARNING: After upgrading, a BLACK SHADING calibration should be performed. More detailed instructions are contained in the Operations Guide (v2.2.5) included in download.

A fresh start could not hurt at all.

Try it and let us know.

If you cannot send the camera back for service right away try to let it sit in the "freeze" booting... mode for about 10 minutes; let the internal boards warm up and then reboot again.

I hope this is an effective workaround on your camera as well.

Check your battery (connectors), if the problem happens with one in particular, stop using it. See if you get this problem using the DC.
I had the same problem, got the camera going, but fried it short after with faulty battery.
Cheers

support...

support...

There are many "known issues" with fixes. If a persistent problem reoccurs that has no "fix"...send it back!

RED support is great.

I had a problem with my viewfinder. I did troubleshooting via this board. Nothing would solve it. I was "crossshipped" a replacement and now have a flawless viewfinder.

It happens with any equipment.

Send it back.
