So I have my pretty Red package, and a few friends of mine are going to shoot a feature, on film, preferably on 35mm, mostly for aesthetic reasons.

I'd love to be on the camera department, but at this point I can't justify taking a month away of Red work and take a big pay cut.

The project sounds like a lot of fun, and its a good crew. Would anyone with a 35mm package be willing to trade cameras with me for a month? It be a fun way to play with a Red package for free. Insurance provided of course, on both ends.

I'm thinking an arri 235, or if we go s16, something by Aaton...?

Again, purely speculative, they might have to scrap the plan and shoot digitally anyway.

Other Options

Other Options

Let's not forget the legions of other perfectly fine sound cameras that have become 2nd or 3rd line choices that are literally lying around rental houses because they don't rent much and the owners can't stomach the low sales prices.

Ever heard of an Arri 34BL4-S, P+S Evolution, or Moviecam Compact ?
You could probably trade your RED package for a 2-camera settup if you played your cards right (and had a bit of luck).

And, if it's an all-singing, all dancing shoot-em-up, yes, you could just film the whole thing to playback with an Arri 35-III.

Best of Luck
