I am not going to use the acronym LUT (I'm sure someone would be all over me if I did) but rather LOOK when referring to various user definable looks.

Is there still one basic RED camera LOOK file or can users create LOOKs on set that will open in RED Alert or REDcine?

your "look" created in camera is carried over to RA + REDCINE + SCRATCH - going the other way (from software to camera) is not available YET - it is something Offhollywood is VERY interested in - but right now, you can create looks on set WITH THE CAMERA - that will in fact travel to post. We would like to create them in software and load them into the camera - and I expect that feature will exist very soon. I hope.

Yeah,

that is what I figured Mark. It would just be great to give the client a "what you see is what you WANT" look (I know the RAW data never gets affected).

If you could set some basic looks in the camera and have them open as such in RED ALERT or RED CINE that would be a great in certain (straight to QT finish) workflows. Just a small time saver and a way to quickly provide clients QT's that look like what they saw on set.

I think the looks can be minor tweaks to what is provided now by RED, any drastic look changes could result in improper exposure of the RAW data (bad histograms). That is not something anyone wants to do.

Maybe thay can just call it a REDLOOK file.

this will certainly be a welcome feature when it is available. importing looks created in redalert and redcine INTO the camera.

Chris,

Give me a call. Let's have a coffee, I can -e-mail you all the various looks I have created. Happy to share.

LOOKs and SD card

LOOKs and SD card

Once entered into the camera, the LOOK data can be saved to an SD Card as a .RLK file.

How close are we to getting the exchange between software and camera?

We kind of have it now in a more raw form.

I am including a link to this thread to merge knowledge:

With all of the toying I have done with looks I keep coming back to a few (not extreme, but slightly different looks) for different situations.

having this option works in very specific situations, but it is much better to be around for the the final grade and make sure the RAW file is correctly exposed. I use the looks to generate great looking QT files that don't need much work, these then act as only "part" of the reference for the finish.
