Hello -

I've run into an issue - at the end of a take when I press the record button, the camera reports that it is "POST"ing the footage, but remains in a hung state until power it down. This has happened several times.

The System menu is unavailable. The Video menu continues to respond, but that doesn't help.

I've searched for similar issues but haven't found any. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks.
Matt

Please contact RED tech support. Is this to CF or RED-DRIVE?

Meanwhile, if you wait a while the camera will recover.

This is to a CF card.

I'll contact support.

mhandy,

I've run into an issue - at the end of a take when I press the record button, the camera reports that it is "POST"ing the footage, but remains in a hung state until power it down. This has happened several times.

I have seen this in extremely hot shooting conditions.

What was the shooting conditions hot or cold?

Temperatures?

thnx

Have had similar problems using the build 16 v 3.1.8 & 3.2.5 In cold conditions, so i don't think that the heat had anything to do with it. The conditions were:
in an underwater housing in 40-50f water--aluminum housing with the fan set to auto. After four weeks of shooting I'd say the camera hung up after recording about a dozen or so times. It would stay on post and just not go away. So i would have to cycle off the camera in order to begin recording again. I have waited up to 6 or so minutes with the camera locked up and still would not recover.

....seems that this is a build issue??

The temperature was 15C, presumably not a factor.

I was able to reproduce the problem with both buttons. Interesting about the rear button.

Also had this issue. The "post" message would not go away and the disk usage said "NaN" instead of a percentage. The camera had to be booted down. Footage was still intact though, so it was a happy ending. Switched drives, booted, formated and all was well again.

The camera also froze up one time while not recording, but just by changing settings. It could not be powered down with the power button. We had to pull the cord out. Very warm conditions in studio though and did get temp warnings so I don't think the camera had a great time. The studio was so hot most of us would run out between takes and cool of. So I guess the camera is more tolerant than us, as it didn't start complaining until the end of the day. A little cooling bag solved that in no time, though.

These two problems have only happened once for me and they were both on the same day with B16 release.

But anybody know what "NaN" means? Stuart? Any idea?

I have had the "hang on POST" problem in extreme heat. Happened about 5 or 6 times over a two week shoot in HOT South Texas.

I would power cycle the camera. The last clip was good. So I would move on and try to keep the camera cooler.

Not-a-Number - it is the result some computing platforms will give if you try to divide something by zero. So clearly the routine that calculates the media remaining was being fed a zero where it shouldn't be. I've seen NaN before once or twice, and I think it was also when the POST stage was freezing up.

Thanks. Good thing to know.

I´ve had exactly this problem with a bad cf card (that RED replaced immediatly and at their own cost).

The card would behave normally untill its been about half full. Then I was unable to get rid of the "post" alert without a power down.

That was in January.

Cheers, Jochen
