I'm working on 4 feature films in SF in the coming months and I was looking at good camera carts. I was looking at REDs camera cart but I wanted to find reviews or even demos of how easy it collapses. Does anyone have any experience with certain camera carts? What brands and what did you like or hate about them?

Backstage TR-04. Lots of accessories for it (mitchell mount, tripod holders, etc) and collapses into a self-contained shipping container. Takes about 5-10 minutes to build/collapse. Also, both shelves have high (3") lips to prevent anything falling off. Less important for the bottom shelf (usually you have big cases down there) but for the top shelf the high lip is nice to prevent all kinds of camera accessories that you may loose from falling off. I have a converted magliner as well and the top shelf lip is only about an inch high, similar to the inovativ carts.

I have, and it is an awesome cart. Your tripod head bolts right on and the rest of your gear will go on the shelves. It's heavy duty, but rolls very nicely and is handy to have on set. I don't really like to post the drawbacks to items but you can't fold it up and pull it through an airport, but I promise you it's 10 times sturdier than the fold up models. And with 100+ lbs. of gear on there it's going to need to be.

I've never used this cart before, but if it's built like their cameras then I'm sure it will do the trick.

Jon,

Are there any differences from the RED version versus the regular Yeager carts?

Well I guess the RED cart is collapsible and it does look just like the yeager cart, so maybe they are the same. I've never seen a Yeager cart up close or even researched them until today so I'm not sure what the differences are or the similarities.

Hey Nick,

I have one of these http://www.filmtools.com/libsencarcom.html

and one of these http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-converted-junior-cart.html

and have worked with the RED cart, regular Yaeger Sr. cart and the backstage cart.

My choice would entirely depend on the purpose/project.

Most of these things are big and heavy so shipping is going to be cost prohibitive. Given that you are a days drive from LA, I'd call filmtools before I drive to see what they have in stock but they usually have a couple of their converted Magliners and the backstage carts on the floor. Get some hands on time and bring it back with you.

If you'd like to see the two I have I'm in Sunnyvale.

Best,

Steve

Thanks Steve! My friend has the magliner and i love it but wanted something more like the second one you posted. That might be the one i go with.

Ya thats why i wanted to see if anyone had experience with it and how easy it was to collapse.

Ha i love the cheap option! I definitely like http://www.filmtools.com/flcacatr.html and i already have a high hat i can just put on top of it. I like the fact that it's a deep shelf. Appreciate all the options.
