Hello again everyone! So I've been updating some of my gear lately and I was looking at some of the Came-TV Boltzen series LED fresnel lights which range from 30w to 150w, both with and without fans. I was just curious if anyone here has experience with them and what your opinions are? They are within my "modest" price range and look to be pretty legit. I know the 55w model seems to be pretty popular. Or perhaps I should go with a new aputure or Genarry light instead? Thanks again in advance!

Personally I'd say the Aputures are the cheapest 'decent' lights you can get.

Yeah. they definitely seem to be a popular choice for those on a budget. But im seeing a few other brands pop up and people seem to be using them to good effect. Kinotehnik, came-tv, Genaray, Dracast, amd Rayzr to name a few. Im looking at the Came-tv boltzen series because they seem to produce quality light (meaning cri/tcri and output per watt, not build quality) for an affordable price. Build quality / reliability is a concern for me however. Aputure does seem to make decent stuff though.

What makes you prefer it over the Came-tv boltzen series ?

They work, in the case of the COB 120D has good colour, and has stood up to a couple of years of solid shooting and being thrown about and manhandled.

Honestly anything less than that and you may as well put the money aside for 6 months down the line to replace them.

From what I've read about the boltzen lights, they seem to have equal or higher cri/tcri ratings than the aputure line of lights. Also, they seem to be pretty close to 5500k. But yeah, they are not really tried in the field like the aputures... Hence the thread....

I can only go on having shot with the Aputure Cob 120D alongside Skypanels and Kino Celebs for a doc. Completely held its own.

Never had a single thing from Came that wasn't screwed in some way or other.

For what it's worth, the 120D Mark II is supposed to be closer to 5600K, CRI of 96, TLCI of 97, and ~30% brighter than the previous model.

Yeah I realize that. The Mark ii corrected most minor nitpicks people had with the first one. I definitely have me eye on one. Still, the 150w boltzen looks great for what it is.
