  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CAME HMI Lighting review?

I don't know CAME but I use a lot of K5600 and love them. And when you have a problem with one of them, you have a great service at a moderate cost. That is very important to know for long distance investment.
Go there and pick a K5600 source to see

Ok guys, it looks right now that if we can wrangle 10 or more, we could get a group buy price of (Need to make sure I can post this) for the 1.2kw HMI. I do not have a price on the 575 yet. Does this price interest you? If so I'll move it forward a little bit before we really jump into this.

For those of you who mentioned K5600 I am right there with you. If you want, I'd be happy to contact them to see what kind if deal they might be willing to throw our way. These are normally VERY expensive lights, but they are also the "top of the line"

I'll contact k5600 and see what they say.

Jay

Probably also too expensive, but I´ve worked with broncolor HMI lights. They are IP54 which means you can put them into pouring rain without any trouble. Great experience. You need to dry your stands properly though :-)
Cheers

$1k for a 1200 hmi? That's crazy cheap. I'm in. Does anyone know how these compare to the Cool Lights hmi's? Also, what's up with repairs if something goes wrong? I wouldn't want to ship to china...

The new CAMEs are PROBABLY okay, but we've had terrific luck buying used DeSistis and CMCs on Ebay. The DeSistis in particular are our favs. We bought nine used HMIs in total, from 200s to a 6K and had zero problems with them. No flicker at all at 24p (23.976). All have electronic ballasts, hot restrike, and were purchased for between $600 and $1600. Several are totally silent.

Cool lights comes with a silent ballast, and are hot restrike, you also have support if something goes wrong with your lights, but the Chinese model does do the job for what it is, but if it breaks it breaks. The silent ballast is a big deal for some, sound guys will hate the fan in the Chinese model. It's not tremendously loud, but loud enough. The Chinese model are not hot restrike, they need about 15 minutes to cool off. Also it's stil unclear whether or not the lens on the Chinese lens has any UV filtration which is why I added a Rosco 3114 gel to mine. I need a UV meter to test it which I don't have.

Do you guys want me to contact cool lights? I know him really well. But at 20% off his 1200w HMI PAR is still going to run about $3,000.00 You all wanna go there?

For those of you who are interested in working with K5600 on a group buy, please see the new thread. They would like to work with us.

For those of you interested in the CAME HMI lights.. Joey and I are working it out, and I should have a group buy thread going up pretty soon

Hello, bringing back an old thread.

Did any of you ever get the Came-TV 1200K HMI and how did it work out? I'm hoping to buy an HMI and I can't afford the good stuff (Arri, K5600, etc..), so I'm hoping the Came-TV HMI is decent.

Mainly, I would rent or rely on my gaffer's kit, but it's nice to have at least 1 HMI in my kit just for "those" occasions.

i would also appreciate any feedback on the 575/1200 electronic CAMe ballast!

would you buy a used ARRI off Ebay or a new Came ballast?

thanks!!!

I bought one of those as an experiment. 1st ballast burned out in about a day. If you tried to restrike it while it was hot, it burned up something on the board. They sent me a replacement. That one lasted maybe a week. They sent me another one that was so damaged during shipping due to poor packaging I just threw it away. I rewired the light for arri standard and now it runs off of an Irem mag ballast.

I would take a used arri, lightmaker, powergems, or desisti ballast over the crappy chinese ones any day of the week.

Overseas they make copies of copies of copies...
The guy I use for HMI repairs told me to checkout Arri compatible ballasts from the ebay seller steven.studio. He emphasized if I bought one to only get them from this ebay seller because the board level components were identical. The head units were a little different- igniters not nearly as good as Arri, or something like that.

At the time I bought Arri instead, but I've been forever curious- if anyone bought higher end ballasts from steven.studio.
