CAME HMI GROUP BUY

I think that I've used this light as a key light on a set for about eight 12hr days already. It's great. I love it. The yolk is kinda weak and the barndoors are flimsy but for the price, it's great.

Four questions

Anyone using a softbox and speed ring?

Can the lamp take the added weight?

What size bag and ring?

It is still possible to order with GB pricing?

Thanks

So the HMI worked a lot for me since I got it. Probably 25-35 days, usually working all day (10-12 hours). It's gone down twice, recently, but because of human error, not because of the light. But I've found that some repairs are difficult and/or impossible because the manufacturer disguises the part numbers of the internal components, making them impossible to replace.

First, it was a blown power module. I'm not sure exactly how it happened, as things were hectic and foggy. Someone either tripped on the header cable or tried to yank it out from the ballast, but some of the pins where pulled loose from the cable. It was a $220 repair with Gilbert at Galaxy Repair. He calibrated the color temp for me and switched out a connector.

I got it back and it worked for a day and a half until it overheated and fried something on the ballast. It could've been caused by the ballast being pushed up against a curtain, but I can't be sure. I sent it back to Gilbert and he said that he can't fix it, because he can't identify the components inside. I'm trying to get the seller to replace the internals of the ballast...but I haven't heard back. I'm looking into the possibility of using another ballast with it, but I don't think that it will work.

So, at the end if the day, it's a decent light for the price, but you should consider that if goes down, you may not be be able to repair it. In retrospect, I feel like I would have been better served buying a used light for more money...one that can be repaired, and would last a lifetime.

After a couple of gigs, mine seems dead for unknown reason. The ballast powers up, the fan runs, but the lamp will not strike. Tried with two bulbs without any success.

Is there any way to know if both my bulbs would be dead just by looking at them ?

By the way, I opened the ballast and found out that the switch 50Hz/60hz/Flicker free doesn't have any effect, except for changing which status led is lit...
Moreover, the status led for PE and TEMP are not connected to anything, and only 3 of the 7 pins from the leader (head) cable are used.

I'm sure it's the ballast. After three blew up I gave up. If your globe is intact it should work. The only way for it to die is to literally rupture, or have the ceramic base fall apart.

If you can get light to come out of it, the fresnel lens is fine. It's the making a bad noise and then not working anymore that I have an issue with.
