I'm having problems with my EPIC, can not save the calibration every time you turn need to recalibrate the camera, I updated the firmware to version 5.XX only got worse, because I can not write, I had to downgrade to the 4.XX release to return to work with the camera ... did not want to send the camera to correct the problem, it's complicated for me to do, I could work with version 4.XX smoothly, just wanted to save the calibration, can someone help me.

Sorry for the english, I'm using a translator.

FIrst, send the log file to RED. It will be on your RED MAG. Then see what they have to say. I dozen´t look good. You might have to send it in for repair

Try another mag. Calibration fail is usually due to light hitting the sensor during process.

Exactly. Another mag and also make sure you're doing the calibration with the cap on and in a dark room.

ive had it fail, and tried it again after making sure cap is really on and bagged and then had it work. so don't fret yet, more tests to be done before sending it in

Start the process again...

Do as follows:

Format your SSD
Eject SSD
Shot off camera
Remove all Modules from the Brain
Load Force Upgrade folder on to the SSD
Insert SSD on to Camera
Start the camera

After the camera loads the Upgrade and self shots down, mount back LCD and power camera preferably via the AC adaptor, then go ahed and Calibrate.

With SSD in...
Make sure camera Lens cap is ON and well closed
If not in a dark room, as added note place a BLACK cloth over the Lens cap, careful NOT to cover the front Fan
Start Calibration

Best of luck

I had a shutdown three times during Black Shading on a new Epic just back from Red…..Talked to their engineers and they recommended I re-install the firmware (5.0.35, at the time). Worked like a charm, all fixed! Good luck to you, hope you can fix your situation without sending the camera in……..

I see now Ketch beat me to it…….Smart guy that Ketch.

I had no luck, tried all ways, I will continue with the version 4 firmware and calibrate every time you turn on the camera, until I receive the email from my SB to send my EPIC to upgrade to Dragon, but I think it will take a while ... but thank you all.

Are you covering the sensor with the body cap and an black piece of cloth, or cover to prevent any light from reaching the sensor?

So with version 4 firmware, it black calibrates OK, but it doesn't retain the setting?

I had a similar, but not identical, issue, and it was definitely a return to Red for repair issue, as there was no factory or User HS calibration map selectable from the Black Calibration menu.

In a pinch, if you have Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) over your footage, make sure to cap up the camera (with something draped over the cap too) and shoot a short clip of black. This can then be subtracted from affected footage to reduce/eliminate the FPN. Some opacity adjustment may be needed to minimise the FPN.

Eric, the problem is very similar, today I received an email from the engineers, I have to send the RED, according to them is a problem in the inner plate that keeps the calibration is defective, they will have to change. :(
