I have a Dell 24" LCD, but I think it's too dark and saturated. Is there any easy way to calibrate the color, etc?

Tom, this is what I use:

http://www.colorvision.com/product-pp-pfps.php

It calibrates to several video standards, including ITU-Rec. BT.709, Cineon, NTSC, etc.. But I also do still work and the printer profiling module helps a lot there.

You may also want to look into Xrite products (formerly known as Gretag MacBeth i1):

...as well as Kodak:

Of course, it all depends on what you'll use it for and, last but not least, your budget.

Hope this helps.

Is there anything free? :)

I'm just looking for ballpark settings.

Is this for stills work or video work?

For video work it might be most helpful to understand the limitations of the monitor and any distortions introduced by your NLE, the LUTs in your video card, any video overlays, etc. (Some of those you can get rid of, others not.)
