I know this question has been asked many times.
I did a search and had no real luck finding a good post.

So ill ask
What monitor do you guys use for coloring and seeing true colors.
Going out of a Kona 3 card into a monitor.

I have heard about a JVC monitor that's about 3 or $4,000
so that's my general price range
any thoughts?
thanks.

RED footage of course feature length movie delivery is 1080HD
and possibly theatrical down the line.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Are you thinking about the JVC DT-V24L3DU?

http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/features.jsp?model_id=MDL101798

I had a look at this a while ago and I have to say for the money looked like a rather good option. But, it had a VERY narrow viewing angle - so much so that clients sitting to my left or right would have possibly complained about it.

I notice there's some evidence of a calibration package for it now:

http://pro.jvc.com/pro/attributes/MONITOR/soft/calibration/index.html

Our machine room has a couple of the 17" models for keeping an eye on laybacks, digitising, etc....

The flexibility of this monitor is where it really scores with analogue component, composite, SDI, HD-SDI & DVI....rather useful in a machine room environment.

JVC may well have improved the viewing angle now - if so it's an even better buy....and I've just read by the looks of things the panel is now actually 10-bit - I was under the impression it was previously 8-bit.

Personally I'd recommend The Cine-tal:

but I fear it won't fall into the budget. The company are great to deal with and know their stuff.

I just got this from eCinema, as they have a new Cinetal competitor. Ciental pretty much is THE high end LCD... but cost about $18K with DI bundle and NOT including a Vectorscope...

I know some people use a calibrated HP Dreamcolor (about $4K to $5K)

EDIT" THe Dreamcolor is 10-Bit and now down to $2K to $3K

here is what he said about their new PRO model

************
The PRO-2310-ADV feature-set compares to the Cine-tal DI bundle and includes a full 10-bit 22.5” 120Hz LCD panel, advanced multi-function (still-store, graticule generator, focus enhancement, pre-stored LUTs and more) 1RU mountable control panel with our iSIM (interlaced simulation) engine retains intra-field motion for critical evaluation and editing of interlaced content, 2 dual-link HD 4:4:4 or 4 single-link 4:2:2 inputs, 4 – 3G in, DVI in, 3D LUT input and our eCinema probe with Monitor Fingerprinting Technology™ all for $10,690.00 MSRP.

Hope this helps.
