Hello,

I'm trying to calculate roughly the data transfer times from of x gb of red media from a red drive (640gb drive for red one) to an external drive and also the same amount from a red CF reader with a USB 3 esata adapter. External drive is connected through USB 3 on a new macbook pro i7 quad core 16gb or ram.

I won't have access to the drive or card reader until the actual shoot (or I would test all myself!) so am just seeing if there are any rules of thumb for data transfer speeds with these components.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

I don't think the 640GB drives ever supported eSATA, so you'll be stuck with FW800, which gets 80MBps, which means 2h13m for a full dump.
As for the CF cards, you can get 85MBps with the eSATA Red Station, but I would expect some slowdown due to the USB 3 adapter.
