I've never tried to tap into the Red for 12v accessory power...what's the best port to try and take a simple cable to power an on-camera 12v light? I think there are 3 ways to do this, on the side aux port, the rear ports or off the battery plate. I think i'd prefer the one to the side or rear of the camera. Who makes such cables for a reasonable price?

None of the camera connectors will supply anything suitable for a light. The D-tap on the battery plate is the only usable option.

Why not? It's an LED light, only draws like 6w. Dont the side and rear ports give 12v?

If you just need an LED light, to save the camera battery drain, I use a Lite Panels Micro LED light, which is battery powered, 5600k, has a reostat (doesn't change color temp as you reo), and a filter to get 3200k. The Micro is only around $325. You might want to check that option out...

If you really want/need to do a tap, you might also check out the Lite Panels Micro Pro, which has an optional 12v tap. Then again, maybe that's the LED light you already have :)
