I called the Sekonic support number and was told that the item number, on the linked site, represented the item number, before a "U" was added, to differentiate those units manufactured after January, 2016. The "U" on subsequent manufactured units designates that it was made in the United States. They said the meter has not changed, if manufactured in th U.S., only the additional "U" designation. So I was told...

Note: the 700R has the additional capability of triggering Pocket wizards...
