Lighting/audio newb here. This softlight seems to have a power adapter that creates a loud buzzing sound in the audio when recording. I say adapter because even with the light switched off the buzz is there. I have to physically disconnect/unplug the power adapter to make the buzzing stop. Other than trying different locations, is there something else I should be checking? Could it be a result of it just being a cheap light? Any recommendations for a similar light that's affordable but doesn't have these issues?

Likely the result of a cheap light. What brand is it? I'd say many cheap lights often have a buzzing power adapter or dimmer box, but usually not loud enough to affect most audio situations.

How long is the cable from the light to the power supply? Can you hide it around the corner? Throw a sound blanket on top of it?

could be a dodgy transformer in the power adapter. depending on what you payed for the fixture it might be worth having checked out by a local electronics guy.
they're usually a fairly basic component that shouldn't cost too much to fix or replace.

Thanks everyone. Turns out it was mainly the proximity to the microphone. If I move it to the other side of the desk it is what I would normally expect. Originally it was really loud, very obvious.
