Does anyone know what taxes are involved when buying the red one and having it shipped down under. I assume our GST, and possibly a customs tax, and the $US to $AUD of course + postage. Anything else?

Fed-Ex will also charge a customs processing fee of around $50 with each consignment upon landing in Australia. We just got a three parcel consignment from a company in the USA (not RED) and somehow one of the parcels got separated in transit - resulting in two customs processing fees instead of one.

It's a pain so we ask our overseas suppliers to ship everything at the same time rather than piecemeal to help keep these fees down. Often some items are non-stock items and have to be ordered in, so we order a few months in advance to give our suppliers time to get everything together for a single shipment.

What Adrian said....customs tax is 5% (of its value) for Red stuff.

thanks guys. if it is shipped to a home address does the 5% tax still happen?

Customs fees and charges seems pretty hit and miss sometimes. We bought a camera staibilser system from overseas and didn't pay anything extra for it to get to our door. Anyway, this is from the FedEx Australia website -

"Shipments valued at more than 1000 AUD will require a Formal Import Declaration (IMD). Shipments that require an IMD will be subject a regulatory processing fee of 54.20 AUD per clearance."

We didn't fill in a IMD when we got our Red so I presume Fed-Ex did that for us in Syndey or Brisbane and just rang to pay the fees over the phone. Hope this helps.

My experience is 5% (as Adrian said, on >$1k). Been hit on (all of) my Red purchases (mind you, 2 cameras plus their fit out made quite a few boxes!, so it wasn't going to slip under the radar); RedRock micro; Visual Products; and lighting (from China).
