  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Burning Blu-Ray

Adobe CS5 (Encore via Premiere & AE).

Any of the current LG, Pioneer, Panasonic, etc.. Blu-Ray burners work just great. You can also create blu-ray compliant video objects from Compressor and burn in various ways, but Encore and the Adobe tools are probably the most user-friendly and complete authoring system at the moment. Avid is another option.

For simpler BD creation, there's also Toast.

Only thing that's really missing on the Mac is BD playback. No player software exists for OSX yet. A few companies have announced player software, but months/years go by and nothing ever shows up. But it's difficult to justify development when Apple doesn't ship BD drives in their systems.

anydvd...
Kemalettin, are you saying burn blu-ray quality to a dvd? If so, how? (hopefully using Adobe PC)

I've got a BD burner but most of the intended users of a particular video I've made only have DVD players but high def TVs. (I know... go figure)

I believe with Toast you can burn blue ray format to a standard DVD using a standard DVD burner. I've done it for a few short projects and it worked great. Had 1080p playback. You only get about 20 mins per disc but for short films, but if that's all you need, it works great.

There are a few pitfalls of burning Blu-Ray data to a standard DVD. One is that some Blu-Ray players won't play the discs, they recognize a conventional DVD and whatever data is on it, be damned, if it's not DVD format or drag and drop MPEG2/4 or AVC files, it won't play them.

I'm still puzzled about why we're talking about AnyDVD here... It's a Windows-based app for starters, doesn't help the OP. It does nothing for authoring, it's a playback, ripping and burning software.

FWIW, you can burn Blu-Ray format to standard DVD from Encore and other solutions mentioned here. Toast is not a bad software on the Mac, especially if you burn a lot of various types of discs for different purposes. For straight-up authoring with proper menu support and good integration with other apps, it's tough to beat Encore.

Zak,

Do you want to burn and/or authoring the disc?

If you have the budget you can use without question Blu-Print for professional work. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/bluprint

If you want it for a daily work you can use Encore CS5 via Final Cut. Superb quality!! http://www.adobe.com/solutions/professionalvideo/pdfs/bluray_workflow_guide_with_fcp.pdf

Encore is a very easy tool to use, but have a few issues with subtitles, etc.

You can use any burner on the market. I use LaCie d1 external Blu-ray burner but the d2 is a bit better. http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=11485
