Hello there!

long ago member of the dvxuser, first time posting in reduser. and it HAS been a long time :)

i'm preparing a quote for a Scarlet S35 set up, for a producer, to convince him to go Red!

the only numbers available are from the Red store, and they're all periphery of the Red one. i know it would be far from precise to quote according to those numbers, and just replace Red one body with Scarlet S35 brain, since the DSMC concept is a totally different beast... but what's the predict? would it be in the same neighborhood of price range? way less? way more...? what parts wont be usable with the new brains?

thanks for the help!

The camera hasn't come out yet. it is a bit early to start quoting to producers.

Shai. From what I currently understand...

Keep in mind, once the camera is released AND shipping, there will be a very long line to get one. I would HIGHLY recommend convincing your producer to buy a used, low-serial number RED ONE for now so you can get in that line. Then exercise your low serial number to buy a Scarlet and sell the Red One for about 25% less than you paid. You might be able to buy a low-serial number RED ONE Body for $17,500 and will almost certainly be able to sell it after you get your Scarlet for $13,500. Even without considering the discount on the Scarlet, you'll only be out $4,000. Don't worry about the other pieces or parts you'll need because if you don't buy your way into the front of the line, those choices won't matter for quite a while.

Keep in mind however that once you've exercised one of the upgrade options on the used Red One, whoever you sell it to won't be able to exercise one of the special upgrade offers. That's why I said you should be able to sell it for $13,500 nevertheless.

And for high-end production companies, studios, rental houses and filmmakers holding out for the EPIC, my recommendation is to offer $22,500 for a RED ONE body with serial number under 500 as soon as you possibly can (Yes, $5,000 premium over new). My understanding is that as long as no one has exercised a special upgrade option on that serial number, you will be able to trade that Red One in at full $17,500 value towards an EPIC. Mark my words, once EPIC is out, low-serial number Red Ones are going to fetch a premium as soon as people realize it's all about your place in line.

NOTE to RED and Moderators: If I have misunderstood the mechanics of the upgrade offers or what happens when a low serial number is sold and places in line and etc. someone please correct.
