  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 99...

haven't had time download, but is this the magic build where the framing tool has visual representation where you simply drag the 4 sides of the frame independently (or locked to a certain aspect) so we can see our framing?

that is what i am licking my chops over.

and thanks red. you guys work hard. respect....

Working on the importing functionality for an upcoming build now.

Wow really? that would be sooooooooooooooooooo coooooooooooool,
Thsanks a lot Deanan. On your next vacation let me know I'll be your guide to Africa. You will be required to carry along DSMC. LOL

Just as I'm finishing conforming a feature the hard way using build 96, I'm sure the day after we finish the project you'll have XML import all ready to go.

At least it will make the next one easier. Keep up the good work.

Tim

Can I drag my video window on a second monitor? I don't own RedRocket...

AWESOME !! :thumbup1:

So, just curious, are we speaking like FCP XML import ? Avid ? Proprietary, with a need to use Crimson/Clipfinder to convert the XML to RedcineX format ?

By the way, is there still a limit in the number of clips you can import into Redcine X (like in the old Redcine, I think it was around 100) ?

Nigel, this has been reported by a ton of people who have downloaded those R3Ds (from Scarletuser). Rest assured that the problem lies within the files (probably corrupt) and not with RC-X, because the files are also randomly garbled (sometimes they're good, sometimes they're not) in the other RED apps, including the original Redcine. A shame too, because Peter M. spent his own time organizing these files specifically for the SU crowd. Bottom line: it's not a Redcine-X problem.

The EDL format would also be far more practical for Windows users. FCP XML format would be nice for Apple users, but these users will also have the possibility of conforming by using tools like Monkey, Clipfinder, etc, which are more stable and practical than Redcine-X for this.

We'll see if this time the Windows workflow will be taken into account...

well fantastic. I assumed the files were the issue. Is there anywhere else i can download r3d files?

Go to your local hire company and ask them for some test shots from their Red. Take your own media and they should be happy to oblige. The more people know how to deal with Red footage in post, the better for them.

I'm impressed with how fast things are moving, but there still doesn't seem to be any way to re-link clips. Having to basically throw out a project file (with the timeline edits and grades) and start over if we ever have to move R3D clips sort of makes it impossible for us to use Redcine-X for real projects at the moment.

Maybe I'm just missing something? I did RTFM. (Or at least search it.)

That's not in there (yet).

how to I export to 1080 with out making the image squished how do i tell it to fit inside 1080

Question:

Do the presets (ie Look, Framing and Export) get written to their XML file at the time you save it? I ask because I saved a bunch of Look Presets, and RCX crashed while exporting a QT. When I reopened RCX, all the Look Presets I created during that session were gone.

Yup, I've had the same issue a bunch of times (mostly on earlier versions that crashed a lot on my computer). Apparently it saves the presets only upon exit...
Would be nice it it saved the presets immediately when you make them.

EDL would definatley be a plus, but I think they said they wouldn't do it themselves, so it will probably have to be a third party pugin...
Let's hope somebody will make it.

And yes, on a Mac you can use clipfinder, monkey extract or crimson to conform your projects, but having the ability to do everything in Redcine X would be so much easier and straightforward... All these little tools were made initially only because of the lack of a good conform workflow (other than Scratch). Redcine X should make all this easier on both PC and Mac platforms, and from what I've seen so far I think it will.
