  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 21...

Teriffic: 4.5k at 30 fps at Redcode 36 - another dream come true.

Nice changes to the manual too. Well done.

i just went to smoke and checked this site...and voila i got a new cam.

i know this will never happen with other camera brands...

and over the last year i realised that what makes red so special to me is exactly this stuff and the SERVICE.

Kudos to my rep Dan Duran, who is always there to save my ass :costumed-smiley-047

After having shot a lot of digital imagery over the years it is hard for me to get my head around a camera that I can upgrade while in the comfort of my own home. Thanks to all at Red for being so forward thinking.

Best, Peter

Shooting a music video this weekend, wish I could switch over to 21, but am gonna stick with 17 until I get a little bit of a lul and have some time to test. So I take it that Adobe has not yet updated their R3D importer yet to accept 4.5K Redcode 42?

It may seem like a small addition compared to 4.5k but i am so chuffed about the VIEW mode indicator. This is something that a lot of people have been asking about, no longer will i be asked is that raw or red space? the dop or focus puller will know straight away.

Argh...I've been away from my camera for 3 weeks, and will be for another 2 days. This is brutal!

4.5K FTW!

I smell epic shooting in my very near future

Why are you still on Build 17?

Anyway, Build 21 is beta and freshly released, so you probably don't want to jump in and use it on a production. Adobe has not updated, this is new stuff as of today. ...Adobe hasn't yet incorporated support for the new "color science" or Red Rocket. Those are my big wants for Adobe right now. 4.5K is the cherry on top of the sundae...

And 4KHD RC42 is my new best friend.

Are people noticing a big difference from RC36 to RC42? I never really saw a difference between RC28 and RC36 for the most part. I usually always just default to RC28. I'm pretty excited about ultra wide 4.5k though. Thanks RREEDD

We shoot all RC28, as well. We may use the new RC42 if we shoot greenscreen, but RC28 has been absolutely brilliant for us.

Now...let's get those Rocket App's updated to play back the 4.5K so we can shoot it!

Anyone have a nice 4.5k RC42 high detail image yet? Looking forward to seeing how RC42 handles highly detailed scenes.

I'm still on build 17 becasue it works flawlessly for us. I was going to updated to 18, but then read about some users having some issues with a couple things. I decided to hold off for the next release and for when things got slow. It hasn't gotten slow yet, build 20 sounds great, but like you say, no adobe support for new color science, so that big advantage is missed. I know there are alot of good things that i'm missing out on, but like they always say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. One of these days, when I have some downtime, build 20 or 21 if we get a final release will be updated.

According to Red.com, the sensor is 24.4m wide, is that the old 4k recording or the theoretical limit that 4.5k almost hits?

Build 20 is the release build.

Okay, at the risk of sounding dumb, I'm gonna go ahead and ask-- so what is the aspect ratio of the new 4.5k WS? It looks even wider than 2:1. Is 4.5 16:9 not available or possible?

Flame away.
