  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 21 release version warning

Stuart it is clear that it is not a build issue for me. I would have prefer to receive a heads up regarding the drives via my Red Bomb Squad Rep given that I don't always have time to come on here and sift through the many posts to find out about it. This way I could go through and test all my drives with the new build before mission critical.

Yes it's a "red problem" but it's important to differentiate what the problem is - especially after a public "warning" posting.

i.e. from the description given this was NOT a build issue, but rather a previously discussed issue affecting some RED-DRIVEs.

i.e. there is no reason at all not to shoot with the Build 21 camera firmware.

Hi Stuart,

To completely agree with you, I'd need to augment your statement to something like "There is no reason not to shoot with build 21, if you've tested your drives for compatibility before doing mission critical work. And let's remember that I was trying to do the right thing.

There was a general all clear after the first aborted attempt at releasing build 21 when 21.4.1 was released. Essentially the message was that the drive problem had been fixed.

You correctly point out that the root cause was the RED drive. But the same drive worked fine in previous builds.

Given that the messaging around build 21 wasn't clear IHMO. And I had personal experience of fellow RED owners expecting to be able to move to build 21 without issue, when I found the problem I let the community know.

It is however a fair criticism to state that I didn't close the thread with a "it has been resolved, and it was a hardware problem with the drive."

Cheers,

Steve
