anyone with build 18 on redone?

stable? want to test anamorph stuff very soon, but i am in a running production and don´t wanna have problems right now.

I would NEVER change firmware builds during a production.

Just my 0.02...

Of course, you could (I presume you can roll-back from B18? Haven't checked it out myself yet) install B18, test and then re-install B16/17 and continue shooting. But my philosophy is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", and you're only talking about testing - so my advice is still, be patient and test new features once you've wrapped.

It's your nickel though!

Cheers,
Dom.

B18 alpha performed excellently for Soderberg's last feature where he shot anamorphic.

thanks.

maybe we wait for the new QT codec and the we go for a test.

Great news, thanks Deanan...

Just to clarify, I wasn't stating that I thought it would have any issues, merely that I wouldn't switch firmwares (or software versions, or anything) in production, even if I knew for a fact it was stable - just good working practice, imo.

With that out of the way, let me offer my thanks and congratulations for a "proper" anamorphic mode - it's FANTASTIC news, especially considering we all thought that was one thing that was permanently off the table.

Joyous days indeed!

So did we. It took a tremendous amount of work to make it work within the current constraints. We're very excited about it also.

Lol, that's cheeky man, but it made me smile!!

Deanan, congrats again to the whole crew - it's a great feeling when you pull something off you didn't think was gonna work, I'm dead chuffed for you (well, and me a little!)...

...and some incentive..."well, maybe we can make that work afterall Mr. Soderbergh..."

;-)

He asked for it before shooting Argentine which was about a year ago and it took a year and many attempts to get it in there.

Is build 18 only for Anamorphic? If not, does it have the same boot hang and playback issues as Build 17?

Soo, is build 18 only anamorphic? Mike, how have you been converting anamorphic footage at this point?

You do the stretch in Color as well? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I was talking to Dane about the whole setup because I was interested in your lenses but we didn't have much time to talk.

I had the same reboot issue, audio_fault during playback with audio and boot hang up with LCD and EVF connected. So, it is the same than v17 for me.

Yes, I do the 4k ana stretch in the geometry room and apply settings to all 4k ana footage. Then I do the same with any 3k ana footage. After this your set to go as all your footage will be desqueezed and all sized correctly. This process only takes about two minutes. If you rent the lenses I'll deliver them and show you a neat little FCP - Color workflow tool I found. Works like a charm and is much nicer than the "native" process through the L&T IMO.
Cheers,
Mike

We are nearly done shooting a feature in South Africa on Red. I loaded Build 18 onto the camera on the morning of the 1st days shoot and we have had no problems at all.

Only problems we had, which I assume others have:

1) Audio_Playback fault when viewing files on the camera, happens regardless of media used.

2) When playback does work the image on the LCD appears cropped by 30% or so. But appears normal in Redcine. Never seen that before.

3) Camera still hangs sometimes when booting.
