Hello

If the build 18 native 2x anamorphic does it means its the 4.5k we've been waiting for?

Thanks

Bloody hell, some people are never happy, are they?! ;) (Just kidding man, just kidding!)

Being serious, I doubt it (but I'd love to be wrong) as it wasn't mentioned in the announcement. Being such a big ask from the community, I would have thought there would've been some fanfare if it was...

Great news all the same though!

Right now, no, it only records the 4:3 area 2810x2304 approximatly of the standard 4k 16:9 frame. This is because when they perform the de-squeeze it fits the image into a perfect 2.40:1 aspect ratio. It is really for a 2k output not 4k but still looks great and you are still recording within a 4k 4:3 box vertically so the noise factor won't be the same as if you shot in 2K mode.
This particular beta build just de-squeezes the 2x anamorphic lenses so they can be viewed properly within the camera outputs and LCD/EVF. This was such a surprise cause we thought it wasn't possible but now it's here!

Now those were some great series...

On the anamorphic, the ability to de-squeeze is not trivial, so although this is apparently a single feature release there's a lot of changes under the hood.

We also had a some high profile projects that needed that feature which raised its development priority.

According to my calculations, 4.5k 2:1 would offer about a 20% sensor area increase, and 20% performance increase.
I've got my two cameras shooting 2:1 now on a feature. That performance increase would be awesome.

Build 18 is brillant!!!! but one question i still seem be getting a 4.3 cutout on my hd sdi monitor but the picture is de squeezed. Anyway i can switch this off or is it a little bug

Not following you on that question - can you explain in more detail please?

In preview or playback? Is that the look around area that you are seeing?

O.K then I suggest that what you are seeing is the approximately 10% SurroundView area.

Can you P.M me please ? I'd like to see a photo of what you are seeing there...

on the orignal 4k ana mode you got a 4.3 cutout so you could see the area in which you use shooting...Now you red genius have desqueezed the image ....but for some reason i'm still getting a 4.3 cutout with grey opacity on the edges on my hd sdi output

sorry to ask, but do you only evf attahed or evf+lcd

.

Stuart,

If we will not be shooting anamorphic (though that would be nice) are there other compelling reasons we should install this beta upgrade?

No, there are no other changes relative to Build 17

(but there are some other under the hood changes that support future build capabilities)
