Is it only me or do you think too that the release version of Build 17 is taking longer than anticipated? I thought that after the codec-focused heavy development of B16, B17 would come out sooner.

I was shooting on B16 today and i really wished i had all the UI enhancements of B17 but because of upcoming productions i can't beta test.

Do you think that B17 ended up to be more difficult that expected or RED resources moved to RED's other projects that are now under development?

It's been in Beta for quite awhile. Sure want that 4K HD capability.

I can speak only for my experience with my camera, but I see no need for trepidation about Build 17; in the past we've experienced problems with all the builds, including the Release Builds, but Build 17 seems to be rock solid.

I've been doing paid jobs with Build 17 4K HD, some of which could be reshot only at great cost, with no problems whatsoever. None. Zip. That includes sound-on (with mixer for phantom power) and playback.

If you need 4K HD, jump in; install Build 17 and test the hell out of it before your paid jobs. I believe you'll be happy.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

The list of upgrades are known, thus the impatience.

Let the soup simmer - don't microwave it!

Allow trained chefs to taste-test; not McCorporates!

Bis Bald!

And as Leo is a well-trained RED chef, take his word for it and dive into the new flavour, now!

Well you are free to install the Beta version .... formal release though is close.

There are some bugs that were uncovered in this Beta test phase, so that's what we have been focussing on fixing.

I might as well do that Leo. Thanks!

Are those uncovered bugs listed somewhere? It might help us take a more educated decision on giving it a try or not. :-)

If you seen "Iron Gym" a 2 minute DR spot (Easy attach pull up bar) that's been airing relentlessly, even a couple of times on Monday Night Football, I shot that with my RED Overcranked in 3K on Beta Build 17. It's currently the highest grossing Direct Response product in the country right now.

This Build has worked beautifully for me on this and other sizable commercial jobs.

The disclaimer of "don't use beta builds on commercial jobs" is like the a disclaimer of a police radar detector that is intended for "off road use only"...

RED is swamped on many fronts & I'm sure although they would like to finalize Build 17... It hasn't been at the very top of the list.

Cheers.

I common build 17 error is failure to boot, You just power down then re boot and it seems to work fine. We just finished a feature with build 17 and had the boot up problem twice.

Failure to boot...this has been a hang-up of the RED ONE for quite a while.

audio codec error on playback is also a B17 bug....but only on playback

Yes, that one we have looked into, and we think that's fixed.

We have a revised version of Build 17 out with the Alpha test group.
