  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So let's speculate what this build 16 trick exactly is that should improve dynamic range.
I heard it works only for 24 fps. ?
That would mean they need as much exposure time as they can get. But how does that help? You can gather more light. In the dark parts and bright parts. The brights parts set your limit as they start to clip if you expose for the dark parts.
So I wonder if they are integrating >= 2 exposures with higher frame rates into one 24 fps exposure. They can go near clipping for individual exposures and the sum will not hard clip with 12 bits if they integrate cleverly. Both blacks and highlights are improving. So will possibly the rolling shutter artifacts.
Comments?

I could see that working however
if you have lots of motion in the scene yourpretty
screwed as it would show as frameblending on each
frame....

That would be pretty daft to limit improvements to 24 fps only ...

But would it look much different than 24 fps which has the same motion heavily blurred?
