  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 16: Pyro Spirits!!

Every day I try to push the image quality further....

Graeme

Awesome! :w00t:

May I ask what lens at what T stop you used?

But Jim, when will we know how you know what you know?

I know you won't know until we do...

Good news is that everything we do know will get translated into everything we make.

shawn the detail in those flames is amazing and they aren't blowing out. its so damn smooth, no noise, everytime I feel like maybe Im sucking in too much hype I see something like this and I'm in love again. I think RED is pretty much going to give the competition a huge stomach ache for a very long time to come. they simply can't keep up with this. even if they follow the updating firmware model.

Jim any chance we'd see a multitouch lcd panel in epic like the iphone has ? it could make working with the camera faster and give a more tactile feel to the menus and operations

Why?? I am beyond happy. When you're promised a BMW and instead get a Lambo, you don't ask what else is in the garage!!

I hope the image stays exactly like this!! Build 17 needs to be: TC & audio over HD-SDI, i lens data and sleep modes.

But more image work? No way!!

Hey! It's easy for you to say! You are playing with build 16 already!

I am sure that if Graeme finds more ways to improve the image you will not say no.

Anyway, i have to admit that what i see makes me very very happy too.

Very encouraging. congrats!

Shawn, could you test it on some dark green forest with some motion in it. A pan will do, if you don't know how to make the forest elves move the forest itself...

Shawn, did you blow out the flames at the end. There seems to be a couple of frames where all we see is a bit of lingering from the lighter, and if that is an indication of the low end, man it looks pretty clean.

I thought overall, this looks incredible. I really like how the image is pulling together, in all aspects - dynamic range, clean shadows, etc.

Very nice!

Heh... so does this mean we need to go out to the caves again and reshoot our torch scene on build 16? :)

Yep, I blew them out.

Very cool. The shot, the build and the outcome...

Being knuckle dragging fanboys seems to have it's perks. ;-)

No R3Ds from Alpha builds will be posted. We are allowing some footage to be shown to "preview" what's coming. Full scrutiny will come with the Beta build. Alpha is the time when we catch stuff and fix it...

Nice test, Shawn!

I can hardly wait for Build 16. I'm about ready to shoot a short film and I think I've made the decision to hold just a bit for B16 -- hope it comes pretty soon, I can't hold off forever. :)

Fair enough re not posting alpha R3Ds - but you can't blame a guy for asking. :)

Absolutely not! But can you blame us for not letting the R3Ds go out early?
