  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 15 sneak peak...

LOL............... some of these posts just crack me up. Complaining about more features!

I'm not complaining - I'm just asking if 120fps only works in 2:1. And passing a comment that 2:1 always means the sides being thrown away for me, and image that is not even full HD to work with (1,777 x 1000), and I'm wondering why we can't have image area where most projects need it. I don't mean to complain that 2:1 is there, just wondering why 16:9 for about the same number of pixels can't be there also, because it's a smarter option for most projects.
It's the only interesting question I've ever asked on Reduser so I'm keen for an answer from Red. Seems like a sensible and reasonable and interesting question to me.

...The double frame is just how i rendered out the 15fps webvideo to a 30fps timebase to save some bandwidth.

That's kind of a bummer of a decision given that the whole point of the movie was to show a frame rate. No need for a crazy high res version but the 15fps thing makes this footage difficult to evaluate.

The 360º shutter makes it clear that we are seeing every frame you shot though, so you didn't save any bandwidth—in fact, the opposite. You sent us two identical frames for every one you shot.

I'm sure this was an honest mistake, but since it it has the effect of artificially slowing down the playback by 2x, it could be construed as disingenuous, given that the movie was designed to promote a slow-motion feature.

Played back one-for-one at 24fps, the footage should look like this:

From a Viet Nam veteran to an Afghanistan veteran, be safe brother. C-ya back in the USA...

Good luck and please do keep safe.

Thanks, doing my best ;).

Are you active duty?

I'm Air Guard (Prior Army), Combat Rescue Aircrew. As you know (I believe I've read that you were deployed here as well) the surrounding mountain ranges can provide a nice prolonged "magic hour" so I'm looking forward to capturing as much as possible.

I wonder if the resulting video is frame for frame what was shot or it's just as if it was shot at 60fps. It's difficult to judge...

You can tell that it is frame-for-frame what was shot because the motion blur streaks line up from frame to frame. The 360º shutter gives it away.

120fps isn't as slow-mo as you might think.

Not that this isn't a way cool feature.

Jaaaaaarred!!! Where is the new video?? :)

sorry.. got sidetracked wrapping up the beta 15 release... will be done soon.

I'm going to be making a million dollars....soon.

i think we can all agree.. its better to put the priority on getting 120fps into your cameras then me just teasing you with ice cubes.

2K 100fps to CF
2K 120fps to RED Drive

Jim

2K 100fps to CF
2K 120fps to RED Drive

Jim

And that is only as long as CF stays at this speed, as CF's get faster, the ability to record the higher FPS will be available.

I love modular systems!

correct david.. correct.

Fill er up

Fill er up

Well done, 120fps is an important milestone.
How long in real time to fill up a red drive @120fps?

180fps @ 720p?

180fps @ 720p?

Has been mooted before, is 180fps @720p on the cards?

Although 720p is not my idea of a good base level for HD work it has a few years of life at least of being a stop gap for sports broadcasters and docs.

Seems to me that 180fps @720p could be a natural fit (less processing?) for the 720p outputs on RED?
