  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 15 sneak peak...

Looking fantastic Red. Wonderful...

Uh.

I have to ask, coz you got my little grey cells going with the math...

If we can do 4k at 30fps...

2K being a quarter of the pixels we can do 120fps...

Uh..

Uh..

can we do 1k at 480fps?

PLEASE??? :)

Could be really usable for someone doing a commercial for standard def only.

It's not tied directly to pixels but instead to full lines, compression, media, and a few other things.

hi everybody, and thanks to the red team for 120fps, just what we need for an upcoming shooting.

maybe i didn't see the link yet, but did jarred post the 24fps version or whatever so that the frames don't get dublicated?

another question would be: lighting equipment, doesnt look like much, but which lights (watts/k) were used and in which position.
also lens used (cooke?), shutter, iris and exposure would be really interesting and since this was a test shot info about all that should be available.

final question, is this water or glycerin? doesn't look as "splashy" as water on impact.
greets

Fantastic!! It's been my experience that shooting at under 100 fps is just a way to waste a lot of film in a hurry, but at 120 things somehow get beautiful.

Another unexpected and huge value added to the RED!!!!

Thanks Jim and Jarred and RED team

Great work guys - I really didn't expect to see that, and in fact was starting to wonder if and when we were going to see the fabled 96fps mode...

Way to put paid to that worry!!

That's worth it's weight in gold, is that...

Nice video Jarred!

Tell me if I'm wrong but isn't that a DVD spindle cover you're dropping the ice cubes in?

your wrong sorry, not even close.

Its a CD spindle cover. heh heh heh :)

Good eye.

Just caught this. Nice shot Jarred!

Really exciting to see 120 fps!! Can't wait to play with it.

Thanks for making it happen :)

I'd like to see 4K 2.39:1 @ 40fps, and 720P @ 300fps.

1K... not sure what "1k" would be, 1024 x 576? Why stop there? Let's go for widescreen NTSC, 864x480 @ 700fps...

(and then, if and when Red fulfills the original goal of 4K @ 60fps, all these frame rates should double!)

All this should be possible, right? Seriously, it would be very cool if we could dial in custom frame sizes. Might be a hassle to implement through on-camera menus, I can see there being GUI issues, but what about through loadable scene files? Someone could work up a scene file editor program, you type in your desired frame rate and fps, the computer program verifies that it's a valid combination, and then saves it to the SD or CF card. On the Red we already have the ability to load in a "look" from disc...

We've been told from the beginning that the sensor will do 120 at 2k and 60 at 4k, it's not going to go higher than 120 fps unless it's the upgraded sensor that Red hasn't released yet.

That's astounding!

Thanks alot Jarred - this is very much appreciated.

(P.S. Anything else before the build release? ;) - just asking ... )

Very nice!

So basically, you would want to use 16mm lenses at 2K to avoid a crop factor, right?

Mitch... what are you doing up so late?

Jim

Looks like he's trying to rent Phantoms!!!

Jim,

The amount of light needed to increase frame rates with the Phantom is some what of a limitation... How much more light does the RED one need for 120fps? Is there some type of chart that laysout frame rate and increased light needed?

By the way thanks for the 120....it looks great!

Dave
