  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Very soon, we are going to shoot some difficult motion shots and with our new partners Subvoyant (www.subvoyant.com) 3D track them in PFTrack to offer project files and footage to PixelFarm for NAB.

I'll post some stuff on REDUSER - anything we have tried in VFX land has been BETTER than footage from HD or FILM.

Great stuff thanks for keeping us posted Mark!

I would think 4:4:4 for VFX would show super clean keys...even better than
the ones on King Kong....It's also one of the reasons that Mr. Jackson & Soderbergh love this camera I'd imagine...
How did your Night at the Museum test go?

Jim, do you guys ever take time off?

I'm shocked at the pace & momentum this team is building.

Keep up the great work!

You're making other companies look lazy.

He never seems to get much sleep, but I understand as I'm the same way when I'm in the middle of a project...
If anyone is in Park City, please Write Build 14 on that dam chalk board that said Vaperware last year....The punsihment for that joker should be to write
"RED One build 14" on that chalk board for every camera pre-ordered... 3,600 times!

yep, probably i made it simple because i thought that because the skew happens because of the readout time in a 2D surface a 2D math was enough to compensate the skew effect.

It isn't really a 3-D issue. It's just the speed at which objects move through the camera's field of view. It just so happens that objects farther away from a moving camera move more slowly through the field of view.

"Correcting" the skew in post is hopeless, because on any horizontal line you can have parts of objects that are skewed different amounts, and correcting them will (as someone noted above) leave holes or at least black areas at the sides where material was shifted left or right.

The best hope is to add skew-measuring and auto-skewing functionality to compositing software. If you manually set tracking points on planes that you identify visually, and then connect two of them on the same plane and tell the software "this should be a straight vertical line", you have a start. Then you have to get into the varying skew on multiple planes and decide on which of those planes the composited item is supposed to be sitting...

Jim,

The only major problems I see with this camera are the skew and strobe issues.

I'm not going to even ask if builds 14 and 15 address these.

In the words of Tyler Durden "Surprise me!"

Axel... after the footage you posted you deserve an answer. But I just can't give you one now. All I can say is that if you are happy with the footage you are getting now, you will be pleasantly surprised by the features and performance improvements of 14 & 15.

Jim

Jim,

thanks for the feedback. So we are looking forward to this upcoming releases. Good luck on a quick process and few last minute bugs.

Wouldn't you de-skew, add effects, and reskew to get the frame back to normal rectagular?

I have no experience with motion tracking, I'm just curious about it. I've heard that 35mm film cameras have some skew on moving objects due to the motion of the mechanical shutter. Are there ever skew issues with film-originated material? If so, I would have expected compositing software to already incorporate skew-measuring and auto-skew functionality (?)

I just want the strobing fixed (emergency vehicles), but I think that's probably a pipe dream at this point. Boy would I be happy, though.

As it happens, a fire truck just pulled up beside my house. . . apparently a problem down the street. Suffice it to say that thing is covered with strobe lights. Ain't no way a RED as it now is could shoot a fire truck.

I would hope that the centerline on the cmos would be dealt with.

looks like shit here

Who me, or Just me, or whatever you wanna call yourself now,

If you weren't hiding, your user name would be a real name that could be googled for verification.

I have no beef with you, I'm just sayin having an anonymous username with no identifying info is pretty much the definition of digitally hiding.

PLENTY posts from people that don't agree and they are not banned.

But folks that have no intention of contributing anything accept smart ass comments ... could get banned.
